Headed to watch tigers in Round Rock this week and looking for BBQ recs that aren’t any of the following (have had great experiences at all of those but just wanted to see something else if worth it)
Been to the following:
Franklins
Terry Blacks
la Barbecue
Valentina’s

Salt Lick
Terry Black’s is my favorite.

We liked Stubb's. The BBQ was good but the history of the place is amazing. SRV first played there.

if the weather is nice a ride out to dripping springs to the salt lick is fun. Bring beer

Iron Works but it's been a while since I've been there

I live in RR.
Interstellar is very good. Not exactly traditional Texas Q, but very good. It's just over in Lakeline so easy trip from RR.
If you want to go into Austin, Leroy and Lewis is my suggestion.
I love the OG Salt Lick, but IMO the one right next to dell diamond is good but not great. Can't put my finger on it but it's not the same as Driftwood.

I would put Valentina's bfast tacos against any tacos created in the history of man. RealDealHolyfield is unfreaking believable.

The only reason to go to Iron Works now is if you're doing something at the convention center and hungry.
There are so many other places to go now for better BBQ...and it's certainly not worth the trip into Austin specifically for it.
That said, about 15-20 years ago, it was a decent stop.

Yep, it's how I encountered it and have only been when at a convention not when I was there for other reasons.

Repeating here, but I second whoever mentioned Leroy & Lewis.
If you're heading that (general) direction, feel like Interstellar is a must-stop, for sure.

Drive 36 miles northeast of Austin to Taylor, Texas and go to Louie Mueller's BBQ. Many of the other bbq guys learned to cook at Louie's including Franklin.
For the folks going to Round Rock, Taylor is only 17 miles
to great BBQ.

A bonus is it is in a great food truck park w/ other trucks and a little brick n mortar place that sells craft beer and coffee. There are lots of adirondack chairs and picnic tables in a nicely landscape beer garden where you can chill for a long while. Just down the Street is Still Austin distillery who's cask strength bourbon is very good. Their single barrel and cognac finish bourbon is very expensive and just ok.

Taylor is probably the best experience. Easier drive. Less barbecue cool.

Went to Terry Blacks, Stiles Switch, and City Market in Luling this week. All were great. Even HEB has decent brisket if you’re on the road and need a meal.

If you want to stay near RR and not venture into Austin, Brothertons Black Iron BBQ in Pflugerville is a great spot and the people who run it are some of the most respected people in TX BBQ.
