re: Did Dugas solidify himself as our everyday 2nd baseman this weekend?

It's week 1. The only everyday players right now are Crews Morgan Thompson and White when he's healthy. Slumps will happen and players will alternate based on matchups and who's hot

At 2nd base? Because he hit western michigan? No.
The rest of the team was hitting, or missing, vs the same Western Michigan pitchers.

If you hit, you play. It’s that simple

It’s baseball. If a guy is hitting he plays. You keep playing him somewhere if he keeps hitting. The end.

If it was me I’m gonna play the best 9 power hitters on the team and that means moving guys to other positions to make sure that happens because it’s the only way to play all of them.
Then I’m making defense subs as soon as I get a comfortable lead or I make defensive subs if the defense is playing like shite because of having only the best bats in the lineup.
In other words , you play the best bats until they start to frick up in the field and you address that accordingly with defensive replacements .
We can’t be any worse than last year in the field even if guys are out of position to get their bat in the lineup

I don't think Dugas will ever solidify himself as an every day starter. If he could, it would have been so in 2021 and he would have never sat the bench last season. His college production warrants him never not starting but it is obvious that his playing time will always be directly correlated with his current production. He's just not Jay's guy. Jordan Thompson is Jay's guy-- not that Thompson is bad by any means. He's just not close to the college player that Dugas has been.

Other than the pitching, Dugas’ performance was my favorite part of the weekend.

I think Neal is in this group also.
My opinion is you only have the corner OF and 2B to tinker with. White comes back and he is at 3B. Dugas is going to be in the lineup because he is seeing the ball so well. That will be at 2B or LF. Nippolt can slide to 2B if Dugas goes to LF. Then you have Jobert, Pearson and Kling to continue to rotate in the corner OF spots. Jones is not coming off the DH spot the way he is seeing it right now also.

Agreed.

Guess that is what I was getting at just didn't really say it correctly.
Will get really interesting if they bring back White at DH but not playing 3B for the weekend. Then you have Dugas, Jobert, and Jones in the mix. I think the best outcome for that would be having Dugas at 2B, Jobert in RF, Jones at 1B, and Morgan go play LF. Which I think if White isn't healthy enough to play 3B then he shouldn't play at all this weekend.

He started 62 games in 2021

He was injured last season.

I lean toward the notion to where if he hits he plays.
If the defense becomes an issue, you re-evaluate. There has bee. no defensive pressure thru four games, however.

If you hit the ball you will play. Even if the coach tells you to go lay down behind the pitcher's mound until 3 outs are called on defense.

But obviously we have seen him do it before. He definitely cant be taken out of the lineup right now.
And this is coming from the president of the dugas fan club
He's right you know

I agree, I think our best lineup right now is:
LF: Dugas
1B: Morgan
CF: Crews
3B: White
DH: Jones
RF: Jobert
SS: Thompson
C: Neal
2B: Nippolt

he once led the sec in rbi'z
he can hit against errybuddy, not just west mich
leave him in until it's apparent he is a liability on defens, which he may not even be. i haven't seen that.
put in Nippolt late in games to protect leads if that is prudent
