The Millennium Falcon jumped to light speed after they escaped, telling me the rebel base was on the other side of the galaxy.
How did the Death Star get there so quick? Could something that big jump to light speed?

It went from Alderaan to Yavin in a few days. Yes it was capable of light speed.

Where are the waste pipes? This doesn't look up to code.

So when the Death Star is being attacked by a bunch of small ships on its surface, it could have just jumped to light speed and likely killed them all and got away?

It did, and what's even more puzzling is that the Death Star has no visible forms or propulsion.

I honestly have no idea on the lore behind this, but from a story-telling standpoint it would be a good idea for it to require an obscene amount of power to move such a massive object at that high rate of speed. It could be stanced that ships are built with this capacity as the fundamental function, even star destroyers (movement is primary, offensive and defensive measures are a very close second).

The Death Star, though... it's fundamental function is to serve as a threat, something which can be moved to destroy an entire planet. As such, planet-destruction is its fundamental purpose with FTL being tertiary (orbit-assisted maneuvering within a solar system and ship-to-ship defense being the secondary foci). As such, moving it like that would drain a frickton of power, power which takes time to build back up (which becomes important if they need that power to destroy enemy fleets, much less a planet).

It must have it went from Alderan to Yavin somehow.

In the EU, yes. It’s got one, and it’s slow. Alderaan to Yavin isn’t a short run
