Where’s Ohio State or Michigan?? With that schedule, Brian has nothing to worry about.

They almost lost to South Dakota last year.

In the new contract, Ferentz will make a base salary of $850,000 and will be able to have his contract reinstated to a two-year rolling agreement with a bonus and salary adjustment if the team meets certain requirements. The team needs to score at least 25 points per game and win a minimum of seven games in 2023 for Ferentz to hit his goals.

Iowa's schedule,

Sept. 2, versus Utah State
Sept. 9, at Iowa State
Sept. 16, versus Western Michigan
Sept. 23, at Penn State
Sept. 30, versus Michigan State
Oct. 7, versus Purdue
Oct. 14, at Wisconsin
Oct. 21, versus Minnesota.
Nov. 4, at Northwestern
Nov. 11, versus Rutgers
Nov. 18, versus Illinois
Nov. 24, at Nebraska

All I know about Iowa, at this point, is that Kadyn Proctor won't be there to help them.

25 ppg last season and Iowa finished 11-2 with a narrow loss to Michigan, sweep of the Big Ten West, BTCG, and a possible NY6 bowl.

The offenses doesn't have to rack up the points or be prolific. It only needs to rank in the 50-60 range in CFB.

The Iowa D is that good. Imagine how much better it would be if the offense had a pulse and strung together a couple first downs keeping them a break and better field position.

It was SD State. Iowa was in no threat of losing that game. SDSU scored 3 points off an Iowa turnover deep in their own end. Other than that SDSU didn't cross the 50 yard line

No. That's the point of the 25 ppg standard. People in here saying it's low. I'm saying the O doesn't need to produce much for Iowa to win.

people are going to disagree with you because they don’t watch Iowa football but what’s being done to y’all’s offense is criminal. It’s been far and away the best defense in the big 10 and probably 2nd best in the nation behind Georgia. You guys had a once in a generation defense for a school of Iowa’s caliber and a chance to compete for things Iowa may not have another shot at for 50 years and it’s been wasted by a completely incompetent offensive staff.

I don’t think anyone is going to argue. This is a super high bar to set for them. That’s like a 50% increase from last years PPG. We aren’t talking an extra point or two.

If he doesn’t hit it, he’s gone. They are giving him one last chance.

that may be true, you're right I don't watch iowa. But after looking at their schedule over the last 2 years they don't seem to have played many prolific offenses. In their combined meetings against OSU/Michigan from the last 2 years they gave up 42, 27, and 54 points for an average of 41/game. Only 1 of those btw was against Ohio state. The rest of their schedule the last 2 years was against your typical minnesota, purdue, rutgers, nebraska, etc slate of mediocre big 10 offenses.

Not saying they aren't good, I'm not sayign that at all. But I think if they had to face a few more legitimate high scoring offenses their reputation would surely be taken down a peg.

Yeah but you have to understand how horribly bad their offense is. They scored 3 offensive points against South Dakota state this year for example. If they had a half competent offense then their defense wouldn’t have been left out to dry in those games. And I mean look at what Ohio state did to georgias defense this year in the semifinal game. If some of these high powered offenses are on that night it really won’t matter what the defense does. And it’s going to be even worse when the offense has less than 10 first downs for the entire game

It's Ferentz ball...

Try not to beat yourself, bend but don't break defense... it is what it is and has been since 99.

Punting is winning!

I know. With two safetys.

To say there was never a doubt about them winning the game is laughable.

right that's exactly my point. Our defense is megaelite but when facing megaelite offenses you're going to give up points now and then (althogh against oregon and UT we didn't give up shite). If iowa played more offenses with a pulse they wouldn't be considered as great as they are. That was my only point, not that they actually suck or something.

but that didn’t make Georgia not the best defense in the country. Iowa still probably had the 2nd best defense in the country the past 2 seasons that’s not saying they wouldn’t give up points to great offenses. It’s also why if they had a better offense they would have a CHANCE at beating Michigan and Ohio state not saying they necessarily would have

Beating SD 7-3 without an offensive TD is the most Iowa thing I've ever heard.

Nah. Iowa has averaged 25-32ppg for most of Ferentz tenure. Just the last two seasons his boy has ran it into the ground with a turd QB.

Iowa beat them 7-3 and did not score a touchdown. Two safeties and a field goal. It's one of the most incredible box scores I've ever seen.
