I was going to book a flight to Dallas and I see Spirit airlines was a good bit cheaper. Is it that bad, or is it just an occasional fist fight here and there?

I've only flown it once. No issues from DC to MSY.

No. Smaller, less comfortable seats maybe and obviously everything other than your ticket and personal item is charged separately

But I wouldn't think twice about using them for NOLA to Dallas

I don’t find them that bad.
I like the non stop to and from Vegas.
They charge you for every little bag so pack accordingly.

Not bad if you know what to expect and it is a short flight.

Recently got a $78 xna to denver on frontier. Have flown $75 msy to denver on spirit before. But I can fit in a smaller seat and pack multiple outfits in a backpack. I will do it if it is super cheap and my husband is not with me

I’ve flown Spirit a dozen or so times with no issues . I think as long as it’s a non stop flight they’re just as reliable as any other airline.

I read the quote once here and it rings as true as the sun rises in the east.

Spirit is great......until it's not and then its AWFUL.

I could see that being very true. I would not use them for an event I needed to get to or if I had a hard date I had to be back at work. But for going visit family with the laptop in tow for working from home and flexible dates it is fine. Also be aware of the schedule they fly. Sometimes it is literally days between flights on discount airlines.

Direct under 2.5 hours it’s hard to beat. If longer and connections I would be a little more hesitant. Pay the big front seat price it’s worth it.

Never flown it. I think the reality is if your only goal is to get from point A to point B as cheaply as possible, it’s a good option. Otherwise avoid it.

Personally I’d rather pay a bit more and stick with one airline for status purposes.

Used several times. Once was an hour late on the takeoff. All others went well.

Thats pretty much the mindset I think. It's like booking a trip without travel insurance. You can save money by going with Spirit but if something goes wrong your trip may be severely impacted so if the schedule or itinerary is rigid that should be factored in. What other costs might you incur if a flight is delayed (not by hours but by a day or more in some cases)?

If the trip is solo, total lagniappe, direct, cheap, direct and without much investment or care if it doesnt happen...sure, go for it.

Have the family with you heading out for a vacation with other reservations pending a specific arrival day and time? Have a connection somewhere? Etc...I'd say go with a different airline and spend the extra money.

I got the awful yesterday after two ok experiences, 12 hours at Msy with last 2 hours on plane at gate. The sad part is they waited for a significant police/security presence before canceling the flight. So my lifetime will be 33% bad, will not be a next time.

Flown spirit at least a dozen times. Never an issue, including flights to Mexico. hard to beat the big seat too

Really it is not "that" bad but it can be if you go expecting the same accommodations as booking with Delta, United, etc.
If you understand it is cheap because it is the bare minimum and that you have to pay to upgrade seats, bring luggage, no food/drinks served, and relatively small compared to the main cabin of most airlines it is fine.
I don't mind using them if I'm flying to Dallas because it is less than an hour flight. Also, they use to run the flight for $35-55 which was a steal round trip. I'll use them for anything under 3 hours if there price difference is significant and I know I only need a book sack.

It’s a point A to point B airline. If you just want to sit on the plane, take off and land at your destination, then it’s for you. If you don’t care about the amenities, there you go.

Not bad if you do your homework and know/understand the extra charges.
