Collis Temple approached President Tate when he was first hired at LSU about the court

Collis told Tate that if you want to make good friends here, doing this will make you a popular man. Tate agreed to it and now a year later, some people on the board are mad about equality and made phone calls to the governor. Gov. Edwards calls Tate and says I’m for equality are you? Those same board members are in Tate’s ear about equality and agreed to the name change. People close to Dale Brown said he is livid and they are worried that this might kill him.
