Always wanted one and am curious if anyone here has any experience with the breed.
Any recommendations on finding a good breeder?
Supposed to be pretty cool dogs.

they're 'possum killing machines, have real hair too, so non-allergenic to those predisposed

I've had one and was a great dog. Individual dogs vary but the breed tends to be very independent to the point of being stubborn, they usually bond more to one person rather than the entire family, need a fair bit of exercise but a lot of mental stimulation or they'll create their own regardless of what it may do to your belongings. Generally they do better being the only pet in the house and they can be rather more vocal than some others.
I liked mine and wouldn't shy away from another one but I just found other breeds I enjoyed more.

Haven't owned one, but did work with one for years doing Pet Therapy at OLOL children's unit. And the one I worked with was a great dog. He was a very sweet and very loving animal, and was great with the OLOL kids.

I owned one for 16 years. Probably my most favorite pet of my life, but...
she was very stubborn! When she was anxious she would eat anything she had access to, like floppy computer disks, berber carpet, towels, nails, bricks. Obviously the proverbial cast iron stomach. During her towel/carpet stage, we often had towel and carpet laced poopoo in our backyard.
Train them early and quick before she decides her own way of doing things.
Mine did not like sitting in your lap which meant she was NOT going to sit in your lap. She loved jumping on my back, no matter what task I was attempting. Like she was a mountain goat or something.
She and my westhighland white terrier fought about once a year. They tried to kill each other every time. She usually got the best of him. I got stitches more than once trying to break them up.
Super strong, super athletic, and determined to kill/eat most anything alive.
Based on my little experience, I would not want a male Scottie.
ETA: She wasn't as yappy as any of the schnauzers that I've been exposed to.

Yes, have had 3 over the years. We got our current puppy from Southern Scotties in Amite, La. LINK She is about 10 months old. Great dogs that can be stubborn. In the past we had a Great Dane that our previous Scottie got along with. Cannot stress enough they need to be leashed if outside a fenced yard. They will run off as if playing a game with you. They become hyper-focused on anything moving on the ground, too. I had one push the window button to roll down my rear window while driving and jump out to chase a squirrel while driving. Fortunately she was OK. Made sure that didn't happen again.

I’ve got a Cairn terrier. And she’s a great dog. Great personality and interacts well with people.
About 100 years ago the black ones (Scottish) white ones (west highland) and brindle (Cairn) were separated into different breeds. They are all 3 great breeds and very similar.

I had a Scottie for a short time. She was a mean, cranky bitch. Hated everyone in our family except one daughter. Would've eaten a brick had I given her one. Nothing was safe around that dog.

We have a Scottish Fold kitten, close enough.

When I got married years ago, my wife and I wanted to add 2 puppies to our family of 2 daughters. We got an English Bulldog and a Miniature Schnauzer. I had to re-home the Bulldog due to my 5yr old’s allergies. I had the mini-schnauzer for a decade and have only had mini-schnauzer’s since.
Julius was 20lbs, didn’t shed and was very smart. Loved to ride the 4-wheeler, and was content going on a miles long walk or watching tv. Very loyal, just wanted to always be with the family. Small kids would pull his ears, didn’t mind a bit.

My ex had 2 and they were good dogs. Very loyal to her, but they broke down and liked me by the end. I bought their love haha

I’ve never had one myself but the owner of the lodge I go to in South Dakota in the fall has one. He is more of the family pet but runs With the Labs around the property when we aren’t out hunting pheasant.
But what I know about this particular Scottish Terrier is that he likes to eat pheasant heads. He sits in the front of the little bus and when we finish one field we get back on the bus to drive a mile or so to the next field. As we get on the bus, we just stack the birds up front. I have seen this dog tear off the heads of a dozen or more pheasant in a 2 hour period and devour them like he was eating popcorn.
I admire that tough little SOB. He can go to town on some pheasant heads.

I've had one for about 10 years now, she is very loyal to me, my wife, my mother in law and sister in law. She will not let anyone else touch her but she isn't mean about it. Just kind of gives a side eye and walks away. My mother in law has had 2 with one just recently passing away at 14. She was very friendly and would sit on anyone's lap.
Both dogs are/were very smart. Mine never went through a chewing phase and has had free run of the house since she was a puppy. We got both from the breeder in Denham Springs. No health issues with any of the ones we have owned.

Had one for 2 years. He was smart but very strange. Also had horrible skin allergies. Tried foods, shots, meds. Nothing seemed to work. The vet ended up taking him and sending him to some place that specialized in rehabbing animals like that. She suspected it was from inbreeding. He also ate my drywall. Through the paint.

My parents got empty nest syndrome and ended up getting several dogs, one being a Scottish Terrier. I'm not a dog person but I absolutely loved that Scotty. He was independent and bull headed but we never felt that was a negative thing, just his personality. He got along great with kids. Whenever I'd visit my parents he would run up to me and roll on his back so I could scratch his belly. I was the only person he would do that for. My parents had a cat that was mean as hell and hated all dogs and wouldn't let any dog near him, but for some reason he liked that Scotty. They would hang out with each other. When that cat was on his death bed the Scotty stayed by his side at all times. I always thought that was pretty admirable of him.
