To put it in perspective, Brock stole 938 bases in his career. If a player played 20 seasons, he would have to average 47 stolen bases a year to beat Brock’s career number. Last season, Jon Berti led the majors in stolen bases…with 41.
It would take Berti 23 years just to match Brock’s career number if he averaged his major league leading 41 bases a year and over 34 years to beat Rickey’s mark

Rickey played most of his years just before my time, but I do recall watching him in a few games.

Those 80’s cards teams were fun to watch… they didn’t homer to you to death but played text book fundamental baseball… good times.

Instead, first baseman and fellow Yankee Don Mattingly won the award handily with 23 of 28 possible first place votes.
In fact, Henderson alone accounted for more than a third of the baserunners Mattingly cashed in, when RBIs were considered the gold standard for MVP.

Will Clark did the same in the Astrodome circa 1989. I’ve still not forgiven him.
