My former boss would frequently use the word "conscientious" out of context and it would make my skin crawl

Nonplussed. I generally like words that have very specific meanings as I likely have a German-speaking brain in an English-tethered body so nonplussed is right up my alley. However, fifty percent of the time it is used the person means the exact opposite and it is often difficult to tell if they are using it correctly. I also assume if I use it there is a decent chance someone will think I mean the opposite of what I am trying to convey.

Obfuscation
I actually like the word because of its useful meaning, but the pronunciation of it is so awkward that it’s difficult to use in conversation.
The only time I would ever use the word obfuscation in a conversation is when I wanted to obfuscate.....

"Amenities," the fancy way to say your Motel 6 has a swimming pool and vending machine.

I find it to be egregious when a perfectly good word “bad” will suffice.

I hate the term "reached out"
