You know you can enlist in the military at 18 but you can't legally buy cigarettes or beer until you're 21. Care to explain the reasoning why being able to throw your life into battle for politicians fighting for oil requires less maturity than purchasing beer and cigs?
thought (in Louisiana at least) there is an exemption for active military drinking in bars? If so, your argument is shite. Its shite anyway cause you choose to enlist and serve. No one is making them join the military. so I dont see the relevance to the drinking age.

I think somethings can be done to curtail lots of bad stuff in tiger land. There are police officers typically in the parking lots. They don’t arrest drunken college students unless there is some sort of fight. And I get that. work with the police to be more proactive. Warn every drunk that if they are witnessed getting behind the wheel they will be immediately arrested and follow through on that. Station police officers and do more sobriety checks. Have police officers do as much as they legally can to get pedestrians on foot in a stupor to call an Uber. You can’t force them. But you sure authority to “force“ them. And if you see a person alone or with one other potion and who appear to be in a stupor, force them to call an Uber. Basically have police play the role of parents outside of these shitty arse bars

Totally agree, Liz.
The victim blamers here disgust me. It also plays into the scales constantly tipped to women always have to go above and beyond to protect themselves because certain parents don’t teach their sons to be decent, accountable human beings. We’ve ALL made poor choices in life, particularly while heavily under the influence of a substance. That doesn’t mean she was asking for what happened to her. Completely depraved for anyone to think that way.
I want to see justice for this young girl. But I also don’t want to see the defense drag her through the mud, as they will likely do. I don’t want that for this family.
I’m about the biggest lsu fan/homer/alum you’ll ever meet… and my kids will not attend lsu unless there is a radical change in crime and politics in Baton Rouge. And New Orleans, for that matter. So…. I’ll just have to deal with the fact that my kids may very well attend another SEC school because the one I attended and love care more about being woke than protecting the campus/students from generational pieces of filth who have no respect for human life. Human versions of pit bulls infiltrating that city.

I think it's just public relations and reputation. The university is kind of in a tough spot because they don't patrol the general streets of baton rouge and can't really solve any of these problems off campus, so making these legitimate safety and crime issues a major talking point is basically committing suicide without any benefit.
I'm not even necessarily speaking about "publicly."
In a sane world, the university President would be coming down HARD on the local administration (and even people in the State) privately. Maybe that's happening and we don't know. I don't know of any evidence for it, however.

but if LSU is going to point the finger at reggies, they also need to point finger at the state for passively allowing reggies to stay open 20 years despite openly being known as the underage bar.
i think it's worth repeating how insane reggie's is and has been for soooo long.
even when i was still in college and closing down fred's junior/senior year, sometimes i would see the scene of reggie's closing with very young peole stumbling out and getting into cars, girls (and sometimes guys) getting carried, etc etc and it just felt... dirty
i'm not some anti-underage drinking crusader or anything but i think it's fair to say reggie's flew way too close the sun for way too long.

It would not shock me to learn behind closed doors Tate has tried to address this with the city and the City basically responded with a vindictive, retaliatory response. It seems that the leadership of baton rouge is that petty these days. The mayor and chief police want to project the solidified front that crime is not the city's fault, and we all know that they punish anyone who doesn't tote that party line

All of the tigerland bars are like this except Fred’s so that isn’t going to help much.

Where on Earth did you ever read this? A facebook post? JFC.

You are completely misunderstanding my argument.
The point is, using the logic that "the reason there is a drinking age of 21" implies that you are inherently more mature at that age in order to be able to make responsible decision to consume alcohol. However, my argument is that enlisting in the military is an infinitely more mature concept to grasp than buying a case of Natural Light.

Nah, but a girl with a bac of over .3 would be pretty goddamned obvious.

My point is it's a CITY WIDE problem for the city where the university is located.
BR and NOLA have become increasingly lawless cities. The more these crimes occur and are publicized, especially when the criminals are not caught and charged (Rice, Dior shooting, mobs taking over the interstate for street racing and donuts), the criminal elements, and even potential criminals that may otherwise hesitate out of fear they would get caught, see they can get away with anything because it's allowed here. I don't know if this trend can be reversed, especially without a major leadership haul, with authority who are honest and see he reality of what's really happening. Moral decline is a huge part of it but there is also no one keeping that segment in check with consequences so it continues to spread like cancer.

Why are you taking their affidavits as fact? You are continually “correcting” people as to the facts of the case, using the perps story as your “evidence”
