When you really think about it, they’re indeed the most “powerful” organization in this country. And with great power comes, realistically, great abuses. I mean, they can pretty much arrest anyone in the country at pretty much any time, save for foreign diplomats I suppose. They can even arrest the President while sitting in the Oval Office, technically. And even then I’m sure they would do whatever they needed or wanted in order to accomplish a goal with that group.
We think of military as being so powerful, and the intelligence agencies, yet they don’t have the authority to arrest you and suspend your freedom and rights, shoot you if need be, put you behind bars for merely what they perceive is a lie, and in many of not most cases courts and judges will side with them and give the benefit of the doubt, at least initially at a minimum. But FBI can sure arrest military if necessary, as well as even any member of the intelligence community.
Ironically, our one saving grace in this regard, i.e. avoidance of all out “coup” of the people by this organization, is actually the reality that there are indeed the very people who they are always shite talking and blaming for everything, “extremists,” in the general sense. The government knows that they are probably far from having their heads fully around many of the most important details that would make them feel a lot better about the scenario. The fear of the unknown is what keeps them in just enough check.
