What the hell happened to Everton?

I admittedly have not kept track of English soccer the last couple years (since stokes relegation) like I used to. How did shite get this bad for them?

They have had like 10 managers in less than 5 years it feels like. Spending a shite load of money in the transfer market with no direction what so ever. That squad is an abomination for how much they’ve spent.

I have no idea but I watched that match and their fans are pissed. This whole thing today has been fascinating to watch - when fans go full revolt against a team and those in charge.

I blame Gylfi, £40 million just vanishing. But yea, the whole manager carousell and spending way too much on bang average players hasn't been great.

they were fortunate they didn’t get relegated last year
losing Richarlson was a huge blow
i don’t know what their plans are in the transfer but their current squad doesn’t impress
they’re in deep shite

As another poster stated, no vision and spending like an Arab in Vegas for years.
We’ve spent $500mil in past 5 years on players, and have literally nothing to show for it. We don’t develop players, and since we’ve had a manager carousel, we have no vision.
This isn’t Lampard’s team (though he has to shoulder some blame).
We have no scoring threat (Calvert Lewin hasn’t been the same since he wore that dress on cover of magazine). Shoulda sold Gordon for $50mil to Chelsea when we had the chance, since he no longer even starts.
Last year we fought to stay up, and I had hope coming into this season. This year, it seems like the players don’t care. Everton has rarely been the most talented on the pitch, but it seems like we’ve always played with heart. That seems gone now.
Rumor has it the board (who was absent today due to “security threats”) will make Lampard the sacrificial lamb, and bring in former captain Baines to finish out the year, in hopes he can inspire the squad to stay up.
The literal only hope that I have is that there are like 3 pts separating the bottom 7 of the table, so we certainly have a fighting chance. However, read today Lampard has won like 6 of his 37 matches in charge, so something has got to give.

May need to break the glass on Big Sam.

karma for what the players in the past did to Martinez.
quit on him like chumps, threw him under the bus as they played horrific, and came out smelling like roses.
Karma might not get you quickly, but they are feeling it now. Good.
I hear a few claiming chelsea are quitting on potter, untrue, they are just an average club, who made a lot of bad transfers. Some really bad moves, then cut and ran with those guys and never replaced them with what they needed in first place. I feel for Potter, he's getting bad press and heat, and it's 100% on director and upper management..

I have two close friends that are Everton fans... they always joked when bad about being in tGOATpionship the next season, and I always brushed them off saying no way it ever happens. That shite is happening this year.... yikes.

Everything Bama has said. I’ll just add with a total lack of identity. The fans, opposing squads, everybody, knew what you were getting playing Everton in the past. You were playing a squad who was better than the sum of their parts and always were a tough out. Fighters.
Now it just seems as if apathy has taken hold like a cancer. Horrible to watch as a supporter.

This pretty much sums it up. It doesn't help that the fans have become a cauldron of toxicity, but hard to blame them seeing what they're dealing with.

That beautiful new ground in the championship will be a shame

Last season someone noted that Millwall had been in the top 6 late in the season and joked about West Ham and Millwall meeting in the London Stadium for the first time ever. It was funny at the time, but as a guy that follows West Ham I didn't think the Hammers would come down to meet them instead. Could be a heck a Championship season if both get relegated this season. West Ham has looked like arse, domestically, for about the last 10 months.

And when they go down, they may be liable to go down again

Top ten in spending in EUROPE last decade with no results
The year started we weren’t getting points but the play seemed better and i thought it would come around
But its a disaster
Dcl and davies worry more about fashion than scoring
We didn’t replace richarlison

Nothing against Everton in general, but I want to see them promoted just for the entertainment value. Some people just want to watch the world burn. Although tWolves may join them. Strange times.

All I know is that Dr Seuss would be proud of all these Everton signs made for the weekend by their supporters

They are going to be relegated for sure. Wolves are in serious trouble too. The real issue is that all the teams that came up are middle of the pack and it looks like they are all going to stick so 3 others will be going down

The entire club has a toxic culture, it's just hard to diagnose. A genuine house cleaning is needed but loads of EFC supporters continue to think they're the right manager away from returning to glory.
Obviously the owner and the board have to go. Kenwright has been a common thread in the decline of Everton and must get out. Everton fans were too good for Howe, for Dyche, etc. and now they might not be able to get someone like that who would have truly loved the job if given time to build. Supporters need to accept the target right now - and for the foreseeable future - is mid table and stability. We need to hire managers and buy players accordingly. I think some of the Summer moves were good in that regard, but we went into the season without any attack whatsoever. Stay up, focus on stability for 5-7 years then you can start talking about cups and Europe again. I'm not sure how realistic that first part is.
