There used to be a deli / cafe called I think Elmwood Cafe and one of my distant cousins ran it.

That was a nice theater. I remember watching that be built… it never really lived up to potential.
Also.., let’s talk about the awesomeness that was Joy’s Cinema City.

The Chalmette cinema was the dollar cinema. I saw Ghostbusters there with my aunts and uncles ( they were only 5 to 8 years older than me). Not until years later did I realize it was where movies go after the run ended in the bigger cinemas and before it went to video store.
That was much later. When it first opened and for many years later, it ran first-run movies when they first came out.

Tulano's was right near the original Swamp Room, too. They had a spicy pizza sauce that was killer.

If I remember my Jefferson Parish lore, Harry Lee owned the Hired Hand. The Hog's Breath was in there somewhere, as well.

Like most things it is probably a combination of stories.
My thinking as well .
And since it’s been so long, and most of the players are dead (at least Copeland, not sure abut LeRuth)- we’ll probbaly never know .

Gary Darling is one of the Taste Buds who are the master minds behind Semolina and Zea.
Warren LeRuth is long deceased.

I think I actually saw Three Men and a Baby at Lakeside. It was either there or the Galleria. I definitely saw it in one of the two.

The construction of the Galleria was very controversial. They had to raze several residential blocks for the site, and there was a lot of public opposition. The original concept included six towers, but was pared down to just the one. I've seen the original concept drawings; fairly amazing what could have been.
The last film I remember seeing at the Galleria was Gladiator, which would have been 2000. The Palace with stadium seating made the Galleria theaters obsolete.
There was a cool arcade in the Galleria as well.

Interesting. I didn’t realize it was residential originally.
I remember reading about the other buildings. If you look at it from interstate you can clearly see how the garage was never completely finished off.
From what I can recall the shape of the buildings were designed to take the shape of the MS river.
