For anybody who doesn't already know, the late, great, "Dandy Don" Long was his cousin.

What? More Democrats?

Personally, I don't just someone STRICTLY by the political party box he checks. They guy knew how to get stuff done for Louisiana. Back in those days, probably 90% of LA was registered democrat. Now, it's much more balanced and look where we have gotten. I'm registered republican but that doesn't mean I agree with 100% of what the party pushes. Get what we need here done and you can call yourself whatever the hell you want.

The Long family did more to screw this state than anything else in existence. Louisiana should be one of the richest states in the union, yet we are dead last or right above Mississippi.

How's that worked so far for the entirety of Louisiana history? This is a state that has been run by Democrats forever. Just because we happen to vote Republican for presidential elections doesn't mean that this state isn't a Democrat's dream.

Read the book Socks on a Rooster and you will be half way there on Gov. Earl K. Long.

Should be required reading for every LA student in LA history class along with T. Harry Williams book about his brother.

Yup. Looked like two toilet paper tubes standing on end next to each other.

There have only been 4 Republican Governors of Louisiana from 1900 on, and one of them flipped from Dem to Republican. You can lay the terrible way this state is run right in the hands of the Dems. They made the crappy reputation of this state.

Also the hospital you ended up at if you played with Lil Boosie wrong.

Y'all are missing the point of my original reply. Earl wasn't what today's version of the Democrat is. He played hard ball and knew how to get things for LA. Sure he did things in ways that were and are still questioned, but that goes for all politics. If you aren't cheating' you aren't trying! If you're the governor following the rules, your state is falling behind. Not sure if we can fall any further.

Not sure I've seen any names thrown out for the next vote that are promising either.

Earl (and Huey) got Louisiana up a little bit by kicking the can down the road. That can is still snowballing and has put us in an unrecoverable shithole that this state will NEVER get out of.

They looked great on paper in the 1930's and 1950's but somewhere in the back of their minds, they knew we'd eventually be eternally fricked.

Best quote I heard on the Long’s was “Earl led his people to water. Huey drove them there.”

The long’s were maybe, maybe a smidge to the right of Stalin. Further left than most democrats today. If you are a fan of extreme left wing policies then you like that if you don’t not so much
