Finger of hardwoods up against a swamp.

.308. Latitude saddle. Thought somebody was shining a light at me when the moon came out on my walk in.

Box stand between two major road crossings
25*
Model 70 .270

Optimism low. I’m likely a week or two late on the rut, very bright full moon, and the 4 wheeler wouldn’t start (again), so by the time I pushed it out of the barn and snaked out my SxS, I didn’t get into the stand until after the usual best time. Being so late, I just pulled right up to the box rather than adding a long hike to my lateness. We’ve talked often about whether that is no bueno, or if the ones crossing even notice.

Be safe fellas

Dropped a doe this am. Got her skinned and in the ice chest. I think that's it for me this year.

Had 2 more small does show up around 8. Pulled card and a new 7pt and new 6pt showed up last two nights.

Guess that means they are cruising. Gonna try some rattling this evening to lure then in earlier. They will not come out until dark

Same. I am thinking about throwing all the fish sticks and tater tots out along with my wife's frozen meals to free up some space.

Same. I gave the last 2 to my mom and brother.

If I get one this weekend, there's always guys at the club willing to take one. Minus 1 backstrap of course.

You made a much better shot than I did, I hit too far back and got some gut. Still happy to bring her (fat doe) down at 265 yards (by rangefinder). First kill with the copper bullets, and a five fingertip exit hole has me believing. Just got her quartered out and in the icechest. A pleasant surprise.

I am a big fan of copper bullets. They hold together great and mushroom perfectly.

I’ve shot the 127gr Barnes LRX (copper) and liked them but then when I needed more I couldn’t find any. Switched over to the 130gr Swift Scirocco (lead) and haven’t had a complaint.
This one absolutely decimated her internals. Nothing left of the liver and lungs.
