Surely that door vibration concerns you huh? Makes me wonder what else is rattling around inside that thing

My first ride on an S-92 put a few more hairs on my chest. I thought that door was departing the helicopter at any moment.

Yep, it is nerve racking. I remember wanting to reach over to ensure it was closed all the way.

Coast Guard just called off the search. God Bless the crew. IF they died, I hope it was swift.

Very sad. I have been hearing the Coast Guard helicopters flying low over my house close to the NO lakefront all afternoon/evening.

Walter O&G operated by island operators. Smaller rig with a bunch of great guys on it. This is heartbreaking

That’s terrible. I will pray for them and their families. There’s a lot of money to be made in this industry, but damn it can come at a hell of a cost.

I would say there’s a 99% they are still strapped in to seatbelts by the way it sounds, but I would think they would have had a dive search by now.
Had a friend pilot that died in the same area a few years ago and they never found him after it sank. Very deep water drops off right there.

I never liked the ride to/from. Regardless if it was Bay Marchand or Walker Ridge. I loved my time out there and am heartbroken when these preventable incidents occurs.

It's has been a horrible year for helicopter crashes in the gulf. There has been a bunch of close calls that haven't made news either including a close call with a 76.

Does a rig like that have any sort of small rescue boat around it for say if someone falls off and into the water? Or if something like a copter crashes in front of it are they pretty helpless and just able to watch and wait for help?

many life boats have a motor on them that could be used in theory.

there are also usually many work & fishing boats in the areas

The bigger DW platforms often have FRCs but not on the shelf like this. The smaller facilities usually don't even have true lifeboat. Just inflatable rafts.
