I grew up in Covington in the 70's and 80's so I remember getting Danny's chicken on Hwy 190. When I was a kid it was too hot for me to eat and one used to be able to see the red streaks of seasoning inside the chicken. I left in the 90's and had not had it since then.

FF to this week and my brother brings some home because he works in Houma. It was absolutely delicious. It was fried and seasoned perfectly and the chicken itself tasted fresher than any other I've had in town. The breast was even moist and enjoyable (holy crap). I know they still have Danny's around but why isn't it more popular? Brother says there is usually a line.

Is this known? Why not more locations?

Hammond had one back in the 70s and 80s too and it was always legit. Chicken was so good and i especially loved their onion rings which were more like onion strings. Amazing. The only thing I didn’t care for was back then you got a store bought dinner roll with the meal. They weren’t doing biscuits back then, but minor complaint. I think there’s only a couple of locations left. Solid chain.

They closed the one in Patterson to open the one in Houma. The one in MC is still kicking. Try the dirty rice, it’s their best menu item

Franklin store is still operating. When I get onion rings from other restaurants I compare them to Dannys. Dannys always wins and I too love the rice dressing.

The one in Franklinton has been closed for years but Brook’s in Mt Hermon is identical to Danny’s.

When they first re-built I would go there a few times a month, always good. The first Fast Food I remember eating was from Dannys in Chauvin. My MawMaw would sometimes get a box of chicken to supplement Sunday Lunch if an unexpected crowd showed up. Her neighbor, Mr. Milton was the manager. Super nice people. It was the cleanest fast food joint kitchen I ever been in and I probably went in 5-600 commercial kitchens if I had to guess.

Their chicken and onion rings look just like the old creole fried chicken at JR Food Marts. I wonder if there is any relation there.

Same

In addition to what you posted, I also like their gizzards and livers.

Is it still there? It was fantastic chicken. Perfectly greasy and crunchy
