Going to the grocery is a big deal when I have a car. It takes 8 plus trips been and forth from the car in the driveway. Cases of canned drinks, gallons of milk and OJ, bulky packages of paper towels or toilet paper, etc. I'm convinced you are single people who don't maintain a household.

If you were walking to the grocery store you likely wouldn’t get 8 trips worth of groceries at once. You’d get enough for a few meals. When you live a couple blocks away it isn’t a big inconvenience to just pop in the store a few times a week.

Just curious, when did you leave Seattle?

I left a few years ago, but my family is still there. We are leaving to go see them tomorrow.

Post-2016, they seemed to get more aggressive. Maybe they've gotten harder to ignore though.

He is still going to the store to buy items like TP and Paper towels. Takes time to catch up.

All this is entirely doable in a denser city.

Because I run a household and have done it for years. I go to grocery and Sam's Club once a week. I know how much space / weight the groceries take up.

Most of you are single 20 somethings that don't know shite from shinola.

You're not buying a weeks worth of groceries and carrying them home, for a family.

I make more trips to the store as I have one next door to me, but its more expensive and its a natural food place. I have to do daily almost daily shopping. Its annoying.

I suppose one or two people could easily walk their groceries home several times a week. Watching people try to get on the bus system with that stuff is laughable.

Ban parking minimums.

Understatement. It's hysterical when people cite small government but want the city/county to force developers to provide off-street parking.

And you are missing that is what people want these days. They have $100K cars that blow breezes on their balls and keep their mochhiato-frappe-sugar foam cold in cooled cup holders.

Why the frick would I want to walk and carry that shite several days a week instead of driving it all at once?

Exercise? See your neighbors? Fresher food? Time spent with the family?

Agree. Its a huge waste of time. Spend way more time shopping.

I mean, if the dude is getting TP, paper towels, boxes of canned drinks every damn week, yeah, it might be difficult. It honestly sounds like the entire family is drinking soda and shitting their brains out. It's arguably easier to get those items delivered to your doorstep, especially now. For me, going to the store 2-3 times a week is preferable than going once a week.

When Harry's closed it took away my walkable hardware store.

Can still do Freret, but it more than one beer away.

Much more fun walking than driving, parking, waiting, driving, gas, etc...

Yep. Cars are just giant money pits that we have been convinced are the only way.

The amount of money we could save if we didn't have the expense of the car itself, maintenance, gas, insurance, tires, registration and inspection fees.

Ditching the car is just ideal. And go a rent one when you need it to move or go out of town.

As long as you are willing to pay more taxes and give up your lifestyle to live in an environment you don't want to live in.

I'm glad people spend their money to live further away. I couldn't imagine sacrificing to live in the more dense cities. Just not worth it to me.

I've lived in a couple of different cities in my life and they've pretty much lost all of their appeal to me at this point. I'd never consider not owning a vehicle either.

If you want to walk, carrying heavy bags of groceries back to your place in the hot and humid New Orleans summer, enjoy. I would be happier riding in air condition with the groceries in my trunk.

I hated lugging groceries the 7 blocks from Rouses back to my apartment.
