i will concede that i havent tried this in New Orleans myself. But form everything ive seen, i dont see those qualifiers being possible, or at least without making some serious concessions to your own life that wouldnt make it more hassle than worth.
Towns are walkable not cities.
Utopians are living in the wrong environment.

A car is the illusion of freedom.
If cities had reliable, safe and on time public transportation options they would opt for that instead. People use cars because they are the least inconvenient method of transportation in almost every American metro outside of NYC and maybe Chicago.

I live in a walkable area, can hit most restaurants and bars. Its such a minor convenience.
What point are you attempting to make here?

Places that organically grow support walkable areas far better than you urban planners can do.
Ah yes, the DR Horton and other large tract neighborhoods that are thrown up everywhere are the epitome of "organic growth". GTFO with this absurd notion.

You are completely ignoring property ownership and communities being built to accommodate what the community demands.
You want to design to restrict private property rights and tell the community what they want versus letting them choose.
Strip malls and traffic isn't for me, but you'd have to be willfully ignorant to not recognize the positives of that lifestyle.
We have room for both thoughts of design without a one size fits all solution for American cities.

Much easier with a car, but that is true pretty much anywhere, no matter how walkable the city is.
i guess that's where we will just have a difference of opinion. the cities i considered walkable there were days where i just wanted to get rid of my car because it was a useless money cost. outside of driving my car once every couple of months to just keep it from sitting. i didnt drive for nearly 3 years.
Life would have been easier getting rid of the car.

America living as dense as any european city is just a bad idea.
What? FWIW, America's most dense city has a higher density per square mile than most European cities.

This is why no one takes you people serious. Nothing but zero sum drama, with no understanding of reality.
In between your little medieval German town and Youngsville, there's a shite load of ground to cover, for us not drama queens.

partially sentimental reasons, partially because i had never lived without a car before then so it felt weird.
no real sensible reason.

Amen. Need and opportunity are far more important than some utopian fantasy.

Cars can go in any direction at any time and make as many or as few stops as the driver likes.
No public transportation can compare.

I know “anecdotally” is a hard word when you’re constantly drunk. But dictionaries are free online.

Is it what the "Community demands" or is there other factors such as outdated zoning laws or NIMBYs preventing cities from changing?

Wat? I advocate for making cities better by banning parking minimums and change things over time.

They are awful uses of land with the gigantic parking lots and owe there existence to the reliance on cars in America.

I'm guessing you didn't know that, but it is true. You don't need an extremely high density per mile to have mixed use areas. Places like West Seattle are easily achievable with good zoning.

Yes, humans need to be limited by design! All humans must conform to your little utopia.
Choice is freedom, youre anti choice.

Well, it is a bullshite fact, but I am laughing because I am assuming you mean NYC and still have your facts messed up.
NYC isn't even Top 10 when it comes to density compared to European cities.

Freedom means waiting at the bus stop, not getting in your car and going when you want to.

Every city has walkable areas, I don't think anyone cares.
Its the people who want to push walkability on those who don't care for it. Its nice to have, if you want it, move somewhere walkable
