Me and the family need to get the frick from the cold weather of Atlanta the week after Christmas. I haven't been down there since 2009. Is it all the same or is one area better than the other? Looking at some AirBNBs.

Best to rent a house on the bay side in Fort Morgan.
ETA: For all of downvoters…the best beach in the area is where this pin is dropped…and the bay side houses generally have pier that you can crab off of, kids love that shite, and fish whenever. Having space to hang a hammock, the lots are generally deep with tons of space between the road and the houses, and or make a fire…it’s pretty damn cool. Not cheap, but very cool.

Orange Beach is more built up and has nicer restaurants. Gulf Shores is still little more laid back. The beach is basically the same though, even though the two have some differences it’s basically one big area.

Orange Beach generally has the newer places and some better restaurants, but there isn’t a whole lot of difference.
And don’t get excited about any nice weather that time of the year

Depends on what you plan on doing. Ft Morgan if you plan to play golf. Gulf Shores if you plan to hit the outlets. Orange Beach if you plan on hitting Flora-Bama.

Literally no difference. You don't really know when you leave one and enter the other.

There is a huge state park with about 2.5 miles of undeveloped beach that separates the 2 towns. Can't get much more defined than that as far as beach towns on the Gulf coast go.

What in particular are you looking to do OP? Everything is drive able and reasonably close. What are the ages of your family?
I'd personally look for a place with an indoor heated pool, and people on here can probably help you with that. Besides that its all close enough to the same and driveable imo. Especially in the winter.

Two places are still all but indistinguishable. Orange Beach having closer access to Florabama is about all you can come up with to distinguish one from the other.

St Joseph's Peninsula, State Park is the best beach, not a fing condo in sight..

OK how about the two towns separated by 2.5 miles of undeveloped beach are very similar?

We go all the time. Orange Beach is superior in every way.

It isn't but a short drive either way so I'd focus on the property you are getting first. My complex was the oldest but it didn't have Phoenix crowds on the beach and that is what I preferred
