Anybody here a member of Pelican Point? Is it worth paying the annual full golf membership? Course kept in pretty good conditions? How hard is it to get a tee time?
They’re running a new member special right now with six months of waived cart fees and initiation fee. Trying to decide if I should pull the trigger.

I was a member years ago when i lived out there. At the time I figured I needed to play 6 times per month to justify the membership.
Living on the course helped.

For the lakes course?? If so, I might pull the trigger myself

In the packet they sent me it said you had to sign a 1 year contract for a full golf membership which includes both the lakes and links courses to get the initiation fee and 6 months of cart fees waived.
But I would call them and make sure. You may be able to work out a deal with them. They do have Lakes only memberships.

This is what you need to figure out OP. Waiving the initiation and 6months of carts is pretty awesome.

I can't speak to the value of the membership plan that you are talking about, but I can discuss the course itself.
I jumped aboard 4-5 years ago when they did an "anniversary membership" deal where you paid like $100 per year up front, then only had to pay cart fee when you played ($25)
I find this to be an incredible value. The course is almost always in pristine condition. The course is way beyond a typical public course. Tee times aren't difficult to get late in the day.
The greens are outstanding. The fairways are wide and the grass soft. Very fair, yet challenging course.
And maybe most importantly, the course drains about as well as any course in the area. You don't have to worry about one afternoon of rain making the course soaked for 3 days.
I feel like I get my money's worth, then some. Paying $25 per round is almost a steal. If you do get a membership, you will be glad you did.

What is a typical cart fee for a member?

One of the big reasons why these middle (maybe upper middle) class Clubs have trouble making it. People only get value out of golf and want to get it as cheap as possible. Fewer and fewer people get any intangible value by being a part of a club, networking and socializing.

All u need is a driver, pitching wedge and putter! Maybe a good value but boring as hell to play!

Not sure...probably $25. But the green fee is way higher than that so I'm happy with the value I get from it, despite other posters in the thread telling me I'm the problem with golf...

Can confirm this is spot on. Same reasons I joined a few years ago. It’s a great bargain for what you have access to.

This. The course is always in good shape but the layout is pretty meh. It would take a really good deal to get me to join simply because I wouldn’t want to play it 6x a month.

I’m not sure how you can be picky with so few alternatives in EBR/Ascension
CCL: $$$
Uclub: always packed
BRCC: $$$ plus if you think PP has a boring layout…
BREC: SM hard to get a consistent tee time / BC quite a drive
Everything else, to far to debate a membership

If a new bridge over the river connecting ascension to plaquemine is ever completed, which we all know will never happen, the Island’s membership will triple. I really like the island’s layout.

Me too. Really takes driver out of play on quite a few holes which is a nice change of pace. Getting off the fairway hurts, which is the way golf should be.

Full member is $22 cart fee. Lakes is $25. Cart path repairs. Tee box leveling. Newly remodeled restaurant. Expanding bar. Teaching facility to open with a new low cost program to hit balls and play lakes with no 3 round maximum.
Lakes membership does not qualify for 6 months carts.

What else does it include? Can my son play too? Dining access? Pool? I can probably sell the wife on it if other things are involved lol.
