Sam Bankman-Fried begs Bahamas judge for bail because he's vegan and too 'depressed'

Disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has been denied bail in the Bahamas after being charged with one of the 'biggest financial frauds in American history'.
Bankman is accused of defrauding investors out of $1.8billion by convincing them his trading platform FTX was safe to use. He has been holed up in the Bahamas for weeks avoiding extradition, but today was denied bail after prosecutors argued in court that he was a flight risk.
They claimed he hid $300million in a Brazilian fund in September, months before the collapse of his crypto trading platform, as a means of setting himself up for an escape when the inevitable happened.
SBF, 30, protested, telling the judge he couldn't go to jail because he is vegan and 'depressed'.
She however denied him bail, remanding him in custody until February 8.
SBF's parents tried to comfort him after the decision was handed down, according to Eyewitness News, a local outlet in the Bahamas, and its reporter Cheyenne Ligon.
After his parents returned to court from retrieving his medications from his apartment, a judge denied bail. Bankman-Fried faces 155 years in prison on eight counts of money laundering and fraud. US prosecutors are preparing to charge some of his friends too.
Prosecutors say he used the platform as a 'personal piggy bank' to fund a lavish lifestyle and make whopping political donations.
During proceedings on Tuesday, is Stanford law professor mother, Barbara, laughed when prosecutors referred to him as a 'fugitive'.
He maintains that he did nothing of the sort, and was going to tell Congress today that he could repay all of the people who have lost money 'tomorrow' if his assets were unfrozen, despite previously filing for bankruptcy.

I’d be pretty fricking depressed too if I were a vegan

Him and that viking dude from the capitol should be put in the same cell. Since when do people get options as to where they go to jail (or prison) because they are vegan?

Wonder if they indict his parents too. Who knows if they are also in deep with this scam?

His idiot Stanford Law professor parents have probably never worked outside of a classroom or library and will likely get a worse result than a run-of-the-mill criminal defense lawyer.

The American left has gone from union baws and the white working class to upper class academics and their billionaire kids who steal millions. Old school Dems like Wright Pattman are rolling in their graves while technocrat apologists like Decatur, TigerDoc, Tboy and texridder cheer it on.

Was he not arrested for extradition? Why would you even have bail? Is he being tried in the Bahamas?

This made me smile.

His Parents run a Democrat PAC in the Bay area. They are responsible for funneling millions to the DNC ( outside of FTXs donations )
quote:
Bankman-Fried’s mother Barbara, meanwhile, cultivated extensive progressive political connections through her Democratic PAC Mind the Gap, which routed millions of dollars from Silicon Valley donors to Democratic campaigns, pledging to spend as much as $140 million in the 2020 election cycle.
The group reportedly attracted wealthy donors by pledging to use statistical modeling to effectively leverage their contributions to elect the maximum number of candidates, an approach one donor called “the moneyball of politics,” according to an expose in Vox. Major donors include Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and a host of other Silicon Valley heavy-hitters, including Human Rights Watch co-chairwoman Amy Rao.
quote:
Bankman-Fried is largely believed to have used his mother’s political connections — and those he cultivated himself through his own PAC — to enlist support for his crypto lobbying campaign in Washington, D.C. During Tuesday’s hearing, several Republican lawmakers expressed alarm at the degree of influence Bankman-Fried was able to attain in D.C. in just a few short years of lobbying work, which focused on ensuring that the crypto industry would be regulated in a way that benefitted his firm.
Barbara Bankman-Fried has since stepped down from her leadership role at Mind the Gap as she and her husband brace for the legal fallout their family is facing, which they expect will decimate their finances, sources close to the family told the Wall Street Journal.
While at Stanford, the pair were often immersed in a campus culture of philosophical and ethics debates, Puck News reported, making it an ironic twist of fate that their child is now embroiled in a fraud debacle of epic proportions.

Crazy how all criminals sounds the same.
I was on my way to the DMV to get my license unsuspended.
I was just about to pay back that $300million tomorrow.

What an idiot. He has $300m and stayed in a US extradition country?
Man. He could be in Cuba or Vietnam.
I guess he was waiting for the shoe to drop first.
