Are dealerships still charging above MSRP?

Unfortunately, we are in the market.

As always, “it depends”.
Do your work. Make calls. Don’t be afraid to walk out

Yes and people are writing personalized letters begging the dealers to sell their dream car to them.

I do not envy your position. I fear we're never going back to lots stocked with cars.
Seems like dealerships may be embracing the JIT model and no longer have to have vast amounts of inventory/financing on their balance sheets.

I have friends in the business. They are laughing their asses off at how much they are making off people.
Do your homework, and try to purchase from a non traditional dealer (online).

Yes, I'm not in the market but I want a new vehicle so I stay looking. Now that the used car market has tanked I can't get as much for my vehicle either.
So it puts me in a worse spot than before, three months ago my car was valued at 22k now with only 4k more miles its valued at 11.3k. Nothing else has changed but the mileage.

Yeah they’ve got to be happy not paying floor plan interest and still selling cars above market value. It’s a businessman’s dream really. Less cost more profit.

That’s brutal. I found myself in a position to need to buy a few months ago. They wouldn’t budge a dollar on the car I wanted, but they gave a significant amount of money on my trade. I didn’t feel like I “won” anything, but I don’t believe the bottom line on that transaction put me any worse than it would have been five years ago like for like.

Does that mean the used car market is back to reasonable pricing?

Local dealership sells most of their inventory before it arrives. They have to be doing well despite few cars on the lot.

Economy is heading for the shitter, rates still rising. I expect that things will shift back in favor of the consumer sometime next year.

Only if you are willing to pay it.

No clue where you live but Terrebonne Ford has been running ads on tv saying "Come pay below MSRP". Now how much...IDK. Just fyi.

Tbh I would be perfectly fine if the new car industry went fixed price across the board. Here is price..buy or not. Same for all.
Get rid of sales people completely.
The idea they get to sit around and try to screw people all day is pathetic. Cars are a necessity…regardless of the niceties some have.

this has gotten me too. I’ve been looking for awhile but holding off on purchasing for a few more months.b my trade in has dropped by about 40%.

I’ve had a personal rule since 2018 to not buy a vehicle unless I can afford to pay cash for it. I’m hoping the rate increases open up some purchase opportunities for me.
