Unless the dude is a total potato and forgotten everything he was taught over his career, I feel like he could contribute to the DBs. Isn’t that Saban’s area of expertise?

A guy who played 14 years with 8 as an all pro at defensive back and also spent a year as a starting WR in the NFL knows nothing about Xs and Os?

Really?

You're comparing that to an ogre that played defensive lineman at bumfrick state University in central Louisiana then spent a career as a defensive line coach?

People don’t like to admit it but successful coaching is about “fit”.

Auburn needed:

1. An offensive minded coach with proven ability to develop the QB spot.
2. A coach with SEC head coaching experience since Georgia and Alabama are so strong right now.
3. A guy who has recruited in the SEC.

There are just not that many guys who check all those boxes.

Freeze was not my first choice but he is equal or better than Kiffin and we got him for 2.5 million less per year.

It a good choice with all things considered.

But Dion does not “fit” at Colorado at all. No money. No NIL. No recruiting base. I hate it for him because he will likely fail where he could have succeeded in the ACC or SEC.

I don't think a guy like Hugh necessarily deserved a second shot at a job like Auburn, at least not yet

But practically, I think it's far, far more likely that Hugh's tenure at AU ends with him having a string of Gus like 4-5 loss seasons than him flaming out in some newsworthy way.

I would disagree.

What was Tubs record pre-Auburn?

How about Chiz?
How about Dye?

Auburn almost always “improves” on a coaches baseline (except for Harsin).

But almost every school has their Harsin/Mike Price/Croom/Jimbo type pathetic hire.

I expect Freeze to average 2 more wins per year than he has in the past.

He is 76-47 in 10 years for an average of 7.6 wins and 4.7 losses.

Since he had to take over 3 programs in the dumper each time - I feel it’s fair to fudge it to an 8-4 record.

Ole Miss won 1 conference game in the 2 years before him.

Liberty finished 6-6 while moving up to FBS the year before Freeze. (Lost to a 7-4 Auburn team 52-0 that same year)

Arkansas State was 4-8 for two years before Freeze and had not had a winning record since 1995.

Freeze makes teams better.

It’s fair to expect Auburn to be better than 8-4 with him as coach. I expect him to average more than 9 wins a year here.

Odom to UNLV kinda came out of nowhere. I wonder if Sam encouraged him to shop around for another job.

Did he turn down Auburn to take the Colorado job?

It will be historic if he does.

Pretty lofty expectation considering no coach at Auburn has ever accomplished that.

Historic yes but not as difficult as it sounds.

The season has been extended to 12 games plus a bowl game. Going 9-4 at Auburn is a bottom level expectation.

Besides all that - he is the most accomplished coach we have ever hired. Think about that for a second. We have never hired a coach with a championship pedigree.

But we still find a way to win and compete for titles.

Add in the NIL - future looks better.

Prime hasn’t accomplished anything except beating up on bottom level FCS schools with a stacked team of Power 5 transfers and superior talent.

Not saying he won’t succeed but give me Travis Hunter and I could coach in the SWAC and win every game by 40.
One, no you couldn't, and 2, you couldn't get Travis Hunter.

A lot of you are blinded by your hate for Deion. Deion has the connections to hire the coaches many can't and has the star power to recruit like many can't. That is literally 2/3 of being a top coach. He'll gain the experience at Colorado and then move up again to a place with big time resources.
