The current cap is $208.2 million.

The Saints were initially $70 million over the cap in the early offseason. Then Loomis pulled out his magic ink pen, and within less than a week, the Saints were under the cap by $30 million. That's an impossible $100 million turnaround.
So, I no longer waste any energy fretting over this mythical cap space or specifically, the alleged lack of it.

Magic pen lol. It’s called kick the can down the road. You gotta pay one day

It’s laughable the fans crediting Loomis with wizardry on what we’re seeing today and will see even more with a depleted roster next year. Go look at the cap hits for MT, Taysom, Peat, Winston next year. Dirty little secret Ram is dangerously close to being overpaid.
They act like it’s a stroke of genius on a mandatory requirement. Any other team could do the same thing. Our future was mortgaged to win now in the last years of Brees and Payton.
The card is due and NFL raising the cap is a pimple on the elephants arse.

Our fans have been saying this about Loomis for the past 15 years. Let it go. The cap is a myth.

We are going to have to pay eventually...Every year...since 2006

Loomis has Khai Harley, who literally worked at the NFL salary cap office. They are not simply kicking the can down the road, but have reasoned, correctly except for COVID year, that the cap will rise every year. They essentially are counting on NFL inflation to make the money they pay now to compete to be cheaper down the road.
It is a brilliant strategy and should have worked this year if they hadn't hired an limp dick piece of shite as a coach.

We have been paying the price. That's just the thing. We've been forced to let a number of guys walk in FA the past 3 years.

This is true but he's just a fall guy. You can bet that he will coach again as a DC. He's doing exactly what he's told to do and will be rewarded for it. Don't think suddenly a different coach will fix this mess. He won't. This team will suck for awhile. Get used to it.

The pumpers are a funny breed. We couldn’t use Armstead, TRex, Marcus Williams, etc. instead of the slop we signed?
Their just going to blame coaching (admittedly poor) when the roster is significantly worse than last season.

When you talk to the average fan, many really believe teams win/lose based on the starting 22. And, when healthy, the Saints do have one of the better starting 22 in the league. The problem is, the team hasn't been healthy for a few years, they have had to sacrifice depth to make the cap work, and even if fully healthy, those other 20+ guys would force this team to struggle against quality opponents.
Armstead didn't want to stay here with Winston but would have with Watson. The team could have resigned him with ease. Also, Armstead just missed his 2nd game of the year, not sure how many more he'll miss over the final 5 weeks with that pec injury
Not sure why happened between the team and MW, but they had the cap space to make it work

Was literally about to post this
BUT WE HAVE TO PAY THE BILL ONE DAY!!!!
When the Saints signed Byrd after having no cap space, I realized the cap wasn't real.

All of this is stupid.

I'd much rather a hard reset and be under the salary cap with no huge hits. Suck for a couple years and try to rebuild to become a perennial playoff team. We took our shot while we had a Hall of Fame Qb and Coach. Now it's time for the rebuild since we don't have a top 10 Qb to lead the team. You can't win consistently without a great QB.

How long til we see the first ever $75 mil a year QB?

Bump this post when we get a new coach and still don't win. The game is rigged by refs, coaches, and players. Patrick Maholmes threw the game away vs Burrow in the AFCCG last year on purpose. It's a fact. You can see it. These players are actors. I didn't watch yesterday but I bet the same thing happened.

One ring with the GOAT because Mickey could stay under the cap but couldn’t build a TEAM under the cap.
They don’t give out rings for staying under the cap that literally all 32 teams stay under every single year

Don't worry, we will Brees some more money to not do anything and will get paid more to sit on the bench, he needs a new orthopedic sock for his ankle. Those run about a million or two right?
