Pert Plus Shampoo changed their formula...and not in a good way

I owed Dhillip some money so I gifted him an unopened bottle of Pert Plus that I had recently acquired. I knew it was his favorite shampoo and conditioner combo and he always appreciated the easy to follow directions on the back.
Anyhow, he informs me yesterday that there is something wrong with the Pert...he said it was runny and it smells bad. He brought it over to my house to show me and it indeed smells differently than the shampoo I enjoyed in my youth.
Has anyone else noticed that the Pert formula changed? There are reviews all over the internet complaining about the change. For people that have been using Pert for 30+ years, they are now suddenly lost and wondering what to do.
And now I have decide if i make Dhillip take it back to the store to get a refund or if the right thing to do is for me to handle it.

I've been using Pert for as long as I can remember. I haven't noticed any changes.
