I would never allow any child of mine to take a bullshite, useless, undergrad major like philosophy unless they were getting a full free ride at that university (including room & board). I would also actively discourage them from pursuing law school (I am a lawyer).

willing to pay for a school they deem worthy over the most prestigious/well connected schools in the country/world bc fox news told them they were bad

That sounds great but you're probably living somewhere with high taxes, high COL and away from family. Everything is perspective.
Not necessarily. The real bigtime firms have offices all over the country and the offices not in LA/DC/NY pay associates a similar if not identical salary/bonus. You can probably clear close to 200k total comp in Dallas, Atlanta, or Houston straight out of school if you have the resume.
Now I imagine the partners probably make WAY more in the bigger markets.

The parents have things they believe in and those schools don't match them. Nothing is retarded about standing up for your own beliefs

That’s an interesting philosophy

I could, and I won't.

Probably the craziest thing the kid would see is the offspring of all these "conservative" polticians and public figures going to Ivy schools, hanging out with the the liberal scions, seeing all their parents mix at the Hamptons or regattas.
The downtalk of what wrong on Ivy schools sure doesn't seem to apply to the conservative parents who are all trying their best to get their kids in.

it is very dumb to discourage your kid to go an ivy league but rather go to some conservative college that aligns with your personal political beliefs lmfao. hopefully the kid wants to be exactly like mommy and daddy

Speaking of Philosophy, Pragmatism.
To answer your question, that’s what I would use.
Start with outcome desired, the long view
From my own experience, the school brand nor ideologies were nearly as important in comparison to who I was at 18yo.
State school or not, work hard, lead others with great care and be curious and good chit happens.

If it is Pre-law then probably not so much
There’s no need to do “pre law” or your typical poli-sci/history/English track in undergrad if law school is the ultimate desire.
Law schools value kids with other degrees, such as engineering, accounting, mathematics, etc. higher than the 90% of applicants coming in with a traditional “pre law” degree.

Yeah and there really is no pre-law, to get into law school they take your gpa and add your lsat etc. they don’t typically care what your major is as long as your lsat is good

Why would you want to send your kid to a commie indoctrination camp…and pay a shite ton for it? Votech at the local CC for the win.

I’d like to see the proportion of kids with two parents and a breakdown by culture for Ivy versus non-Ivy to see if that graph is anything more than a way to sell a story

Who downvoted me? I’m a plant operator and pull well over 6 figures. Whoever downvoted me makes minimum wage part time at a shitty ghetto McDonald’s.

You make it seem like lifetime earnings of 7-figures is a big deal, and maybe it is, but many grads with engineering degrees from top state schools are easily earning 7-figures only 10 years in.
Unsurprisingly, you didn’t understand what I was saying and the terms I was using.
The premium on an Ivy League degree is seven figures - probably well into the seven figures - in real dollars. That is, the incremental value that one gets from such an investment vis a vis a regular post-secondary education from a regular school (like the vast, vast majority of state schools) is at least seven figures in real dollars over the course of a lifetime.
If a kid has real ambition and / or talent, they’d be stupid to turn that opportunity down.
And vanishingly few people are earning seven figures 10 years into their careers, much less engineering grads from state schools. Like less than 0.1% or 0.01%.
