Yes and the amendment that was agreed to in this bill helps protect against that. The hypothetical consequences you’re talking about aren’t related to this bill and in fact, are already possible even without this bill.

You do not think putting interracial marriage and gay marriage right beside each other will have long term consequences? This isn’t about forcing churches to comply. That’s a longer game. This is about making it easier to come down on individual Christian business owners as well as church adjacent organizations. If this wasn’t the democrats intent they would have had no issue with the Lee amendment.

what benefit does a church obtain through tax exempt status. I have never known a for profit church. Almost all consider themselves successful if income matches cash outflow. so it's not an organization income tax credit of any consequence.
Very few donors give enough to have an impact on their personal tax return, so there would seem to be little tax exempt status purpose there
Church staff all get w-2's and have to file their own returns .
Why does a church want tax exempt status?

it makes individual donations to the church tax deductible.

The legal questions around this bill have nothing to do with whether gay marriage is a good idea or whether anyone's tax status is affected or whether states have to recognize gay marriages from other states.
The legal question is whether the federal government has any legal authority to define or regulate marriage.
The answer is that the federal government has no legal authority to define or regulate marriage. The Tenth Amendment limits the power of the federal government to on those powers specifically enumerated to the federal government: Amendment X provides "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."
Art. I section 8 enumerates the powers delegated to the federal government by the states. (Remember, the states created the federal government, not vice versa). Please go read Art. I section 8, but there is nothing which gives the federal government the authority to do what it is trying to do in the "Abuse" of Marriage Act.
And that's why Justice Thomas called into question in his concurring opinion in Dobbs case (which overturned Roe v. Wade) the authority of the court to manufacture "rights" which the federal government had no authority to define.

I have done the finance committee church work at several different churches in texas and Louisiana. Except for a couple individuals in each congregation, not enough donations exist to make an impact on tax returns.
It may be time to tell the fed to get out of the church

This bill isnt giving the federal government any new powers or authority over marriage. A state has to legalize the marriage first. This bill is about full faith and credit.
Marriage, in the civil sense, is a legal contract. This bill requires states to recognize the legal and valid contract of another state.

you are the 3rd poster to ask. one was very early on.
interesting how some fake news gets reposted two days later after the baloney sandwich is found out. Fox tv quotes wsj. 2 days later wsj retracts on page 8. Fox never corrects.
if this is still a thing tomorrow ill look into it.
or you can.

Religions already refuse to marry couples who aren't "right" with the religion. Is this different?

Well, that is hilarious.
The left spread misinformation all the time and it spreads like wildfire.
I recently had a discussion with a very intelligent well informed guy who is a centrist, and he quoted like 3 or 4 recent lies spread by the left before the election.
When he looked it up, he was stunned that I was correct. He didn't understand how he was incorrect.
I said main stream media.

provided such benefit, status, or right does not arise from a marriage.

Willful ignorance. It's the backbone of right-wing rhetoric and policy. It is the only feasible explanation as to their rejection of fact-based reality.

Turns out Trump did pay hookers to pee on Obama's bed, Trump colluded with Russia, Hunter's laptop actually was Russian disinformation, Officer Sicknick died from a J6 head injury inflicted by protestors, and COVID came from Bat Soup.
Does that about sum it up?

That saw cuts both ways. Mickey is definitively declaring this the cleanest bill ever without linking any language from it either.
Its all just a pissing contest.
