Any idea how much you can get for a water oak trunk?

its massive probably a 5-6 foot diameter. I assume it would be good for many slices for round dining style tables.

I hope not much, considering how much i paid to have it removed.

That's why I'm thinking about selling it instead of paying someone to chop/grind it.

A good friend of mine goes into the Atchafalaya swamp, lifts sinker Cypress logs. Has his own mill, cuts some nice slabs. Those logs have been there for over 100 years. He will cut beams if needed. He has the most Cypress that I’ve ever seen. Everything he cuts is rough, like true 2”X4”.

Dad, did you see my thread on the sugar kettle?

Probably zero for a water oak.

Got contact info?

Honestly, not much for water oak, the wood is difficult to dry without checking, and even when dry not easy to work with either.

If you're lucky you can find someone to haul it off for free.

My desk is a live edge piece of sunken cypress. It’s very nice. Had it shipped up from LA.

I was thinking about this for my water oak that I had before Ida.
The trunk had like three trees growing from the base. It was about 30 years old. It was a nice oval shape.
The trunk would have made a nice coffee table. It would have been too small for a dinner table.
One day after the storm a stump grinder was in the neighborhood and asked if I wanted to get the rest of the tree ground to the ground for 300 bucks. So I let him finish off the tree.
I am still waitng for grass to take over that section of lawn.

Oak doesn't work as well for slabs in my experience cut like you are saying. It normally twists a LOT once cut. (Sinker cypress and other species more stable)To really do something with it it normally needs to be quarter sawn. To do that you need more of a log than a stump.
I think the odds of someone paying you for it are less than zero. Go do f someone to take for free possible but unlikely. Find the cheapest person and pay would be my suggestion.

The green trunk is not worth much if anything. Water oak is a red oak and once cut and dried it is more or less like any other red oak. The problem is drying it without it twisting or checking well into the slab is rare. It also is subject to having lots of bore holes and heart rot.
Slabs can be worth a fortune today, odd since many of them would have been firewood 30 years ago when I started woodworking.

You won’t get any serious taker for a water oak. Pretty much just good for burning.
Now if it was more exotic, there might be some interest. But down here water oaks are a dime a dozen, plus they take a LONG time to dry enough to work with
