Serious question….What is Ford & GM gonna do with all these trucks that have been rotting out in the elements waiting for chips?

2023's are built and sitting on a lot rusting the undersides at the former Kentucky Speedway waiting for chips.

Ordered my F250 in August of last year and it was supposed to be done in November of 2021. Didn’t get int until the end of April 2022.

I still haven't wrapped my mind around the idea of ordering a regular vehicle and waiting months for it.

I know someone that ordered a Raptor in January of 2022 and Ford still cannot tell him when it will go into production..

There’s no way in hell I’d buy one of those. Ford would have to guarantee me that the truck hasn’t sat on a lot like that.

We ordered a Yukon on Sept 9th. It was built a month ago and is awaiting transport. For what the “destination fee” is, I can fly up to Dallas and drive it down myself and still save money.

Thanksgiving is my cutoff. If it’s not on its way here by then, I’ll cancel the order and wait until the auto market stops being stupid. And by then the new Sequioa should be available.

This makes me nervous though: If our current vehicle gets wrecked or stolen, it could be a long time before it gets replaced.

Wait why does it matter where it’s parked?

I know about the rust problems with Ford but it would do that on a dealer lot too. They aren’t going to deliver something to a customer that has hail damage or anything. And it’s probably easier for them to install parts on a mostly finished truck than to hold the production until they have all the microprocessors they need. Most of the time they have plastic wrap on them to keep the bird shite off the paint.

It’s getting better, but sometimes it still feels like we are in Cuba with so much scarcity of goods and parts.

It's funny you started this thread as I had just called a few dealerships yesterday also asking about a Platinum model. One of them told me that it just went into production at the plant so they expect to see it within a month...if not sooner. I should come in and put my deposit down if I want it.

That's some good news, I hope they are right. There are deals out there so make sure you get them. I get the auto market may cool down but I think this is only going to be seen on used vehicles. You may start seeing more dealership rebates or deal on new but the annual price increase almost negates waiting.

Why does it matter?! Cause it’s sitting out in the elements for several months while the new engines are sitting idle. Yet another reason not to buy a new Ford.
