A probability and I would say a slightly elevated one given the current state of affairs.
However, all that being said, some people just have a call to serve in one form or another.

I had a student worker working under me at my current job who had a pretty sweet deal. He went to LSU and joined ARMY ROTC. They were paying him while taking his classes. He never had to take out any loans for school. Just showed up for his drill and completed his credit hours. He graduated with his B.S. and the Army immediately commissioned him as an officer. He has a 6 year commitment now if I remember correctly. Really good young man. He’ll live a good lifestyle for the rest of his life and without any student loans weighing him down from the start.
He finished his B.S. with some savings built up. Left LSU in the green already.

I’m not military but have heard ROTC is the way to go if you wanna be an officer.
Agree with the bullshite war part though. That risk might be worth the free education and life experiences.

Adventure is the main appeal.

Sounds like MECEP (or whatever the Army version is called).

You ever think he might be joining just to get the free sex change surgery?

If he gets a great education from one of the academies and goes in as an officer etc that’s about as good a path as you can take.

It’s one thing for a young man who is willing to die for our country. To die to keep us free. It’s another thing to enlist in a military where an elitist president will just as soon send your kid to fight in country who simply isn’t deserving of any US intervention whatsoever.
I can’t even imagine how I could handle this. I appreciate your son’s bravery but there’s a lot for him to unpack before he makes a decision this heavy.
At the very least, tell him to graduate from college first and go into OCS.

Have him watch the 2022 version of "All Quiet on the Western Front" on Netflix.

We need good kids in the military. It’s not what it used to be but it can be beneficial.

My nephew went to maintenace school for 2 years and hit the road as a millwright. He decided that life wasn't for him so he joined the Navy and will be an electronic technician on a nuclear sub. He is stationed in Connecticut now.

I spent 10 years on active duty with the Army, enlisted. Have him go to college first, then either go to OCS or do ROTC while in college and branch as an Officer.
If he can get into an academy even better, that would be the ideal route.

Go read the war thread.
There are a shite ton of key board warriors that can’t wait to send your son to die.
I would recommend ROTC in college, then re-evaluate things in a few years. Filling a grave for ungrateful war mongers doesn’t seem wise.

This could definitely happen within the next 20 years.
