How is our defensive fielding this year? Has it much improved?

SP/rotation is shaping up nicely with multiple options for CJJ.

Certainly enjoying CBK and our LSU FB team, but BB will be fun to watch this spring & deep into the summer.

The only disturbing thing I see is that there were 13 K's registered by ULL's pitching which I am sure wil be corrected before spring.

Our fielding is better than last season. Morgan is healthy, Thompson is playing like he did late last year, White is better at third than Berry was, and second base has several improved players vieing for playing time. The outfield has some talented newcomers who may unseat returning starters. There are three new catchers on this fall's roster who can give a healthy Milazzo and Travinski rest time.

This team will be built on hitting HR and XBH. With that the K numbers will also be higher than normal. Just how it will be, especially with some younger players getting playing time. You could expect to see improvement come spring and as the season goes on, but I wouldn't expect to see this team have consistent games with single digit Ks.

I think the C position will be interesting. 3 man battle for C with those 2 and Travinski. Milazzo will play because of his defense and handling an advanced pitching staff. Question will be how often they go defensively compared to getting a better bat behind the plate with the defense taking a step down.

I honestly think our K numbers will be down.

It seems to be trending that way, and given the way JJ values hitting over Def, wouldn’t be surprised if it materialized,

Millazo I think should be a late inning replacement, if that is even necessary. Neal is a good receiver and has improved each week according to a kid on the staff I know

I hope you are right. I think it will depend on how many of the freshmen we will be throwing out there. Guys like Kling/Neal/Guidry/Jones/Ruddell seem to be hitting the ball hard, but it is also coming with a decent amount of Ks.

Ks early are usually a result of young/new players being too aggressive because they want hits not walks. That’s what I’ve seen in scrimmages. But the veterans seem fine. White, Crews, Morgan, even Beloso are showing more patience. Guidry, Neal and Kling have more patience now than they did early. These scrimmages can cause some regression in that regard, but I think we will see a low K rate overall come the April games.
