Why did Willie play Herb right away but not Dyson?

I ask because last year Willie played Herb right away because even though he was not good on offense he could defend.
Dyson in limited minutes has shown he can defend but he rides the pine.
Why?

Im convinced Willie would sit Victor Wenbenyama if no one gave him shite for it.

Yeah but he didn’t sit Herb.

No idea brother but I bet 100 bucks as soon as we start playing him, we start winning.

Herb was a 23 year old rookie who was DPOY in a conference where he checked top 10 picks for years
Daniels is 19, he’s going to brought along slowly

He’s clearly already an NBA level defender which is something this team can clearly use

Because Herb reminds Willie of himself when he played. A hard working kid who has the heart of a lion, but was always overlooked.

Herb was able to be integrated into the starting lineup because we had enough scoring in the starting lineup and could hide him on offense.
We don’t have that luxury with the bench mob, you have to have guys that can score with your bench units.
Dyson’s time will come, Griff told y’all in the off-season they would bring him along slowly because they have to completely rework his shot, but y’all don’t want to listen.

Remember last year Zion was hurt, Bi got hurt and our starting point guard was Devante freaking Graham. The pickings were slim.
Yet he still found ways not to play Treye Murphy also last year lol.

He is younger than Herb and we don't know what's going on in practice. He might be lost or not very consistent on offense or defense I don't know. Playing Herb and Alvarado tells me that Willie is willing to play young guys good minutes if they are ready. He's 19 and we're 12 games into his RC season, this isn't something out of the ordinary. He'll get more minutes as the season goes along, I don't doubt that. Just be patient.

Because Trey was getting cooked on defense and was regularly missing rotations and was out of position.
You do realize 50+% of developing young players is not destroying their confidence right? If you destroy a young man’s confidence early in his career by throwing him out there and he can’t make a shot and/or can’t defend anyone, you’re never going to get him to reach his full potential.

I know some of you don't want to accept it but Dyson only received playing time because of injuries.
With Naji stepping up and earning his rotation minutes, that's probably where it affects Daniels playing time the most.
Trey is also playing heavy minutes off the bench anywhere they can fit him on the court so that's even less time for anyone else.
You can say things like he should receive Graham's minutes but I think Graham is only there for spacing purposes right now. And those minutes should continue to be taken by Jose over the course of the season.

Daniels’ play has been as good or better than Naji’s. I don’t see that Naji has stepped up. He looks like the same player to me, he’s just getting more minutes. Advanced stats are not great for him like always.

He tried to sit Herb last year, he played three minutes in the opener last season but was forced into action when Josh Hart got hurt. Then Herb earned his minutes.

Marshall is averaging 3.8 ppg on 31% shooting his last 6 contests
he was 6th man of the year before the calendar turned to November
Which lends to a bigger point.. it’s still early, let’s let things play out

Willie was a journeyman/late pick himself, so he has more compassion for those guys and is willing to give them more opportunities to succeed over first rounders.

I say all the reasons why I think Dyson isn't playing above but even with all that, I think you have to find a way to get him AT LEAST 10 minutes a game. Pluck a few minutes from DG, Jose, Naji, and even 2-3 minutes from CJ if you need to.
Of all the top 15 picks, Dyson is average the least amount of minutes. That is a bit ridiculous seeing as how bad we are on defense and what he could bring on that end.
I'm in the camp that DG isn't actually playing that bad, but Dyson should eat into his minutes. We can say that Willie is playing DG for trade value but I don't see that being the case, I think he just likes DG's game more right now.

If y’all haven’t learned by now that Willie is a good coach, he just wants to win, and he is willing to give opportunities to younger guys for their and the teams betterment. At some point as fans, you have to sit back, be confident in our coaching decisions and trust he has a reason for it!
Not to mention, last years team without Zion or CJ early on left so many minutes available for younger guys. And Herb seized that opportunity. Those minutes and opportunity isn’t as available when you have a starting 5 of all-stars and playoff tested bench players ahead of Dyson. It’s not that hard to understand why minutes are limited in comparison.

So tell me who you want to sit for him.
The answer would be either DG or Naji.
and the reason why he's not playing over either is quite simple.
DG needs to keep playing so we can trade him. That's what i'm going to assume is the reason DG plays over Dyson. We brought DG to be the bench scorer and this is the first time he's been able to do that, so they are giving him his shot. If they believe in Dyson, and Kira can be ready to play soon, then i think DG will get traded in Dec/Jan and Dyson is going to play much more. And that's not a big deal for a 19 year old rookie to play sparingly in the first few games and then play a lot more in the 2nd half of the season.
I think Naji has earned his minutes. There are things that guys do that you'll never see that earn them minutes every night, and i'd bet Naji does those things, and he's done well this year on the court.

Lord, it’s Friday, relax lol.
I was mostly joking, though certainly relevant that while Herb and Trey played a lot early, Willie did bury Trey on the bench for a while too.
I don’t believe for one second Willie is sitting Dyson because of his concern for his confidence. I think it’s partially because he doesn’t think he’s completely ready, and more than anything because he feels he needs to play Graham. Neither of which I agree with, but time will tell.
