Who would’ve thought a chance at the playoffs this season?

We still have to win out and that is a challenge in itself. My question is at the beginning of the season, if someone had said we would be in contention for the playoffs and a top 10 team, I probably would have said no way.

Not saying we don’t have a challenge in front of us but saying we have over performed and it will be interesting and exciting to see what Kelly does over the next few years.

At the beginning of the season?

Coming off having something like 39 scholarship players, a WR playing QB in the bowl game, a coaching change, two years of mediocrity, etc.

You thought at the beginning of the season we could have a chance at the playoffs?

after the Florida St game? Most said we’d have a losing record

We had a WR starting as a QB in a bowl game last year that quite honestly, we shouldn’t have even played in. Now we are a top 10 team with a chance of a NYE bowl.

With a good recruiting class and a transfer portal full of seasoned players to fill gaps. There's talent on this team, just not a lot of depth.

a WR playing QB in the bowl game

We had a scholarship QB on the roster, no? Maybe he should have taken the shot at his opportunity to start a bowl game when he had it.

a coaching change

Proving to be an upgrade so far. Even if the lose today and they play hard for 60 minutes and look coached, that's an improvement over the Tenn game. They win out and Kelly has to be in the running for SEC coach of the year.

two years of mediocrity

Everything, everywhere the last two years has been garbage

And everything you said is with the advantage of being able to look backwards.

At the beginning of the season, nobody knew what to expect, so I think anyone who would say that they definitely saw this team in the playoff race is looking for internet points, and not being honest.

Sure. Every year a handful of teams limp into 10 wins. For us, if one of those is bama you get an inside track at SECCG and are one win away from the playoffs. The SEC proves every year that the rivalries more or less are what they are, there isn’t a huge deviation of that pecking order year over year, and the games are usually very competitive.

Kelly’s teams also tend to play just like ours is this year, they win games they aren’t supposed to consistently

I didn’t expect it, and we still have a long way to go, but every single year there are over and under achievers in college football. A lot shakes out in November every year. Tulane has a shot at the playoffs right now. Things rarely go the way of the overcalculated predictions. I also thought Jayden Daniels had star potential. So yeah, I thought LSU had a shot, at least up to this point (bama game).

When asked at the beginning of the year if we had a nice at playoffs, you factor in the Bama game and assume it was a loss.

You have to get through the Bama game to start the tread you started.

You are acting like we already beat Bama. We have ZERO chance at playoffs until we beat Bama. Let that happen or not happen first.

That’s exactly right. If you think we have a playoff shot at this moment, with two losses and bama on deck, why wouldn’t you think the same at the beginning of the season?

I was expecting 8 wins preseason. Looks like we've got a good chance to reach that, and then some.

Even with a win tonight, it doesn’t happen without winning the conference. Beating UGA or Tenn in Atlanta.

This thread sucks. Lose to FSU and everyone is a fatalist. Beat Ole Miss who will lose at least one more game and now there is a shot to make the playoff? LSU got DRAGGED at HOME by maybe the second best team in the East. Sit down and enjoy whatever is accomplished rather than ruining the year with unrealistic expectations.

Vegas had them at -7 wins. I put money down with serious confidence and everything past that is gravy.

I thought we had a chance before the season started just due to the amount of talent level the Kelly was able to collect through the transfer portal combined with what we had returning. Every position seemed fairly solid. Seem to be no holes in the depth chart.

Forget SEC coach of the year. CBK will be national coach of the year after winning out.

Not necessarily. BK signed plenty of talented players. I would say the players had a proven resume of their talents over not BK, but the coaching staff as a whole.

I don't think anyone had this team being .500 or below preseason.

Making the playoffs? Not out of the question, but certainly not an expectation.
