they are extremely expensive (~$300k+)
That's cheap for a decent one.

Amtrak charges ~$5/mile.
Not insane really.

$2000 for an extra locomotive if needed
Super cheap
Three POV's on the rear of a regular Amtrak train;

Amtrak price list PDF
Some things to note; While the extra locomotive is a $2100+ dollar charge, that does not include the extra $6.31/mile for that locomotive.
Also there is a $2974, PER DAY, charge for head end power.
Costs add up pretty quick.
Amtrak doesn't handle switching POV's in Milwaukee. That is handled by Canadian Pacific. Over ten years ago CP charged something like $1500 to take a car off the Amtrak train and spot it 3 tracks over for storage. About a 30 minute move.
Several POV's are stored in Milwaukee as the depot has a trainshed, so they are stored under cover and have power hookups.

Guy in my local Ham radio club has one. Bought an old one and did a complete refurb on it. Pretty cool - I think it even has a fireplace.

I got out ten years ago.
Saying that, there is no way I would vote for the offered contract.
I was against going hourly, but plenty of idiots ignored what happened on CN and went for it. Road guys didn't see much of a raise yet lost all their work rules.

So?
Flying 1st class is a lot cheaper than a private jet too.

I bought one with the money I saved from cutting cable.

So if you had two private cars attached, ppl would have to walk through your pad to get to theirs? F’ that

thanks for reminding me OP, I just remembered I've misplaced 4-5 of them in different parts of the country

No. Each car has a vestibule/entrance/exit.
If you are on a private car no one else is coming through it. They are almost always at the rear of the train.

If I had that kind of money I would seriously consider owning one. It's about 3400 miles coast to coast. At 5 cents a mile, that's only $170, the cheapest part of this whole equation.
ETA: My bad, 5 dollars a mile, that's $17,000. I would probably still do it.

We’re talking about having a private train car, but is it legal to have your own private train+cars? Hitler did.

I believe the Democratic Party has a private car take the Senators and Reps down to DC from NYC right after elections.
There were also a group of Wall Street / Manhattan guys who lived in Princeton that had one for their daily commutes.

Family is in architecture design... And about 8 or so years ago they (firm) were approached to design a private rail car terminal...a private facility for private car passengers to use as trains were refueled changed etc
