Is it wrong to think of it as a $400 tax refund?

We got them. Haven’t used them. Probably a trick if used.

If you have a kid that’s enrolled in a school where all students receive free meals this year, you automatically qualify for that pandemic EBT card they just mailed out.

Where/how can it be used?

We got them for covid and we definitely thought of them as getting a very small percentage of our taxes paid in back. Was embarrassing as hell to use them though.

Go buy $400 of canned goods and donate to a food bank.

And yes if your district gets free breakfast and lunch then all the students got these cards. Last year and this year.

Louisiana extended free breakfast and lunches again? We cut that out here in Bama.

They didn't. Covid waivers ended nationwide. If districts in LA are currently free that weren't pre-Covid it is because they now qualify for a provisional program for one reason or another. In many districts, it's because Ida deemed a large swath of the population "disaster-SNAP" and that makes the poverty percentage high for the school.

It's just a regular LA Purchase card, as far as I'm aware. The funds have been loaded onto the card already. Personally, I'd use it if I were you. Especially with the way your tax dollars are wasted on other shite.

Pretty sure the all of the schools in the BR metro area have received free lunch since the 2016 floods. This is P-EBT which is pandemic food stamps.

If you get it, you’d be a fool not to use. You pay into the system ffs.

Got one last year in AL for both my kids. I believe they each had something like $300 on them. Was a surprise to us, but it bought us groceries for a few weeks so I didn't complain.

It’s done by parish. If your parish qualifies, you get it regardless of income level. This is our first year in public school, so I hope they renew it for next year!

Nah, I got letters saying that they were doing the program but I was “too rich” to get it. Enjoy your government cheese, bitch. I wouldn’t have used it anyway because I hate the people who use and abuse the system.

Was told they’re for 2020-2021 when schools were getting free lunches. If you had money in your lunch account at the beginning of the year they’re just returning it.

We have a guy at work and between he and his wife probably make 150k. He signs up for EBT cards and brags to everybody at work about getting them reloaded. He's quite the loser

If the school is on a provisional program, everyone gets the EBT regardless of income because the school is technically all "free status students" based on the overall SNAP percentage of the student population. If they're not on one of these provisional programs, only the kids who qualify for it (either via income or due to being on SNAP/Medicaid) get it.

List of CEP schools in Louisiana

Your child's school probably just isn't CEP so only the free/reduced kids got the P-EBT. I'm shocked they even sent letters to the families who don't qualify. Sounds like a lot of parents to deal with when they want to know why they aren't getting one.
