Looks like for the whole UK, after accounting for the difference in currency values, would put the UK in the bottom 10 of states in average yearly income

I would assume Britain is higher

Mississippi median income: ~$25,000 (US).

UK median income: ~$38,000 (US).

Mississippi GDP - $104 billion
UK GDP - $3.2 trillion

(Edit: For the record, I’m agreeing that it’s absurd to say the UK is poorer than Mississippi. I just didn’t think that needed to be explicitly stated when I’m obviously showing the case.)

You used individual income for Mississippi and household income for the UK

For 2020 year end (last census) Mississippi median household income was ~$46,500

https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/MS/BZA115220

For 2021 year end UK median household was ~36,400 USD

Okay, fair enough. GDP is still much greater though and Brits don’t have to live in Mississippi.

Which one? There were many.
Do you not know about the English Civil War?
Fascinating stuff, LINK

Also a great period for early gunpowder warfare.

I may make a thread about it soon.

Wapo: Britain poorer than Alabama, slightly ahead of Mississippi

Perhaps we can all just agree that it’s not fun being the 2 states all the poor countries in the world are compared to.

Edit: “In our global news tonight: Iceland faces a severe economic recession. The per capita GDP dropped significantly down to $36,000, which brings it below Alabama…but slightly above Mississippi.”

I went to the Grant Museum of Zoology in January of 2020. It’s an amazing museum that exhibits the specimens catalogued by British zoologists. When you walked in the front door the had a video playing of various folks of varying ethnicities apologizing for the murder of the animals in the museum. They are just as woke as folks in the US.

I have an english friend who insists the gap between south and north england is 100 times worse than the gap between the american south and north.

Northern england is an absolute struggling dump.
