Hello , I’m looking for some help and hospitality from fellow college football fans. I am a school counselor and football coach in Eastern Washington ( far from Seattle geography and many other ways as well ??). Think farm lands and open spaces with hunting and fishing… my bucket list included a trip to watch an SEC game in person and see first hand the fun and excitement. My daughter and son in law got stationed at an Air Force base in Louisiana, and have an uncle that played football at LSU in the early 60’s, and had access to season tickets that have been in the family for over 70 years so LSU vs bama seemed like a no brainer. I’m so excited to head down there next week but only have a few days to take it all in. The kids are driving out for the game and my wife and I are flying in Wednesday to New Orleans and headed to Baton Rouge Friday mid day.
What are must see and do things for us ? Any especially fun tailgating places to go through ?
Thanks for any help you have and we can’t wait for this experience

Definitely go see mike’s cage and watch the tiger walk down victory hill. Other than that walk around and socialize. Should meet lot’s of great people. Good luck. Geaux Tigers

You picked a hell of a game to be your first experience with SEC football.

The link posted above is a good start.

When in New Orleans, grab dinner at Jacques Imo's.

Wear a shirt identifying your home state/ school of choice. Usually a sure way to get invited in random tailgates.

See Mike the Tiger. The Tiger Walk for sure. Bounce around to as many tailgaters as you can and enjoy the taste and smells of drinks and Cajun food. I also recommend Chimes for sure. Enjoy.

LSU fans love to show off their cooking and are happy to share with folks who come on a bucket list trip. Avoid the parade grounds - that’s the frats - go and stop at the tailgates and introduce yourself and I promise you will be offered plenty of food and drink.

Make sure you watch the band and the team march down the hill, visit Mike the Tiger and get in line for the stadium 1 hr prior to kick off. It will be a long line and you want to make sure you see all of the pregame festivities. Calling Baton Rouge, and the band’s pregame on the field.

You have never seen anything like what you’re about to witness! Your ears will be ringing for days after! Enjoy!

You picked the biggest game at LSU since 2019. I hope you and your family have a great time.

Is your wife holding a rod wrapped in foil out in the field for you to post this?

All seriousness, it’s LSU/Bama at night in Death Valley. You’ll never forget it.

Get to campus no later than noon. Like, parked and out of your vehicle by noon. Walk around and take it all in. Like others have said, wear your local CFB team colors. You will be noticed and we will know whats going on .

Get over to the PMAC/ Mikes Habitat/ North Stadium Drive area about 2 hours before kickoff. The team will come down Victory Hill first, followed by the band. DO NOT MISS THIS!! After the band is finished and goes into the stadium, go ahead and make your way into the stadium. This will give you PLENTY of time to hit the consessions, use the rr, and get to your seats to watch a little warm-up. That will have you primed and ready for Callin Baton Rouge and Pre-Game.

Dont forget to update us after the game on how your trip was.

As for tailgating, I recommend walking around and taking it all in. People are literally everywhere. Walk around campus, say hello and “Geaux Tigers” to anyone and everyone. Someone will likely offer you food and drinks, being you’re from out-of-state.

My husband is from Walla Walla! Welcome to Death Valley -- you're going to have a blast. If you wear Washington gear and come to Lot 206 where I tailgate, I'll find you
