Who won the World Series last year? The Astros? Who let their star SS (Correa) and OF (Springer) leave and sign deals with other teams last offseason? Oh, yeah. The Astros.

Because they had a stud SS waiting in the wings who ended up winning World Series MVP.

It’s not remotely the same thing

My plan (I’m obviously not Snit)

C: Murphy 108, TDA 54
DH: Murphy 20ish, TDA 50ish

I'm sad to see Dansby leave but if that's what it took to keep him then we made the right decision. Good on him for getting that bag though.

Every Brave who touched the ball on the final play of the 21 World Series is now gone.

I’m sad, but life goes on.

We will still be in the mix for a long time.

I blame a lot of this on Ozuna. Not saying I’d be ok paying Dansby what he got but it seems like AA is so scared to overpay for someone and them turn out to pull an Ozuna that he’s never going to sign a big FA. Like it or not, Fried is gone in 2 years. Morton will likely be gone in another year or 2. Unless Ian pulls his head out of his butt or some of the prospects pan out, we’re gonna be looking at holes in LF, DH, and the rotation. And maybe SS. It would be nice to think some of the big FAs would be in play. But it’s looking like we really gotta rely on a weak farm or AA licking up again like he did with Joc, Soler, and Eddie (for 1 season at least).

This is not a post bashing AA. Just saying it was fun looking forward to the free agents every year but now it’s meh because we know there won’t be any big signings.

You're not wrong.

But maybe Grissom can be our Pena, especially offensively. We'll see how Wash does developing him defensively, but if anyone can do it, it's that guy. He's a wizard.

I trust the Braves scouting and development people. They are some of the best in all my of sports.

Big signings are just that, big signings to get a fanbase excited.

They don't equal wins.

Considering the shoft is gone, I’d gladly sacrifice offense for a better glove at short.

frick, I think I just talked myself into giving Shewmake a shot. This is Pastornicky all over again.

I agree, but like I said above, let's see how Wash does w/him from a defensive standpoint. He was raving about him last week, and Wash just doesn't throw out the platitudes. So I'm in a wait and see mode.

Wash is good but that was a clear spin job by the organization. The media didn’t just decide to snoop around New Orleans to see what was going on at Wash’s house.

Also, let’s not forget in 2021 we were pretty bad defensively until we sold out on the shift, which was smart… Well now the shift is gone and we have a SS with significantly less range. It’s going to be a work in progress if we go with Grissom, maybe even takes a whole seasom before he’s fully comfortable there.

Small sample size from last season, but his one month in Mississippi playing SS, he graded out as one of the worst gloves in the Southern League. I just don’t think people realize how much we are downgrading defensively going from Swanson to Grissom if that’s we ultimately do.

You think Correa, Judge, etc., won’t equal wins? Ohtani, Machado next year won’t equal wins?

Let’s not forget the shift is gone against us as well. I expect significantly more offense in 23. With our lineup and pitching I’m ok with that.

I can't disagree, but like I said earlier I am in wait and see mode on his defense. We all know that he's gonna hit.

If we didn't have Wash working w/him then I would be worried.

You think the Angels would have just as many wins last year without Ohtani? Really?

You think the Yankees would have had as many wins last year without Judge?

When it comes to the former, maybe 5. But the Angels are such a poorly built team that it ultimately doesn't matter.

The Yankees are a much better built team so Judge's impact/presence isn't as needed if you get what I'm saying. But he had his share of game-winners or had a hand in winning games.

Weren’t you saying all season that we would re-sign him and that the Braves had all this money laying around that we just haven’t decided to use yet for some reason

What’s becoming obvious to me is that the Braves were in situations with the young guys where we get them on cheap deals early or we let them walk as free agents because Liberty Media wont ok a huge contract.

Also the whole “big free agents aren’t worth it” convo is just ridiculous. Payroll is one of the leading indicators of performance. teams like the Rays aren’t the trend, they buck the trend, and they also don’t have a WS to show for it so far.

By law, they aren't allowed to inject extra cash into the Braves that the team doesn't earn themselves.

Not really. How many of those Boras contracts have worked out for the team? How did the Pujols and Cabrera deals work out for the Angels and Tigers?

If it's spent smartly.
