Yeah, people keep saying this and conventional wisdom says this will happen, but it just never does. As long as the TV dollars roll in and the franchise values continue to increase, the contracts will as well.

Maybe. But I was saying that 10 years ago amidst a rash of bad contracts but nothing has changed.

I would have gone $22 mill for 6 years, or $132 mill, with an $18 mill team option year for year #7.

I wouldn't have gone a dollar higher than $150 over 7 years... and that's a lot. Probably too much.

I would NOT have paid him more than Riley and Olson.

The fact that we’re a World Series contender and this is our organization plan for LF is so fricking depressing.

The Braves love Luplow's defense. His arm strength is in the 96th percentile. His ability to play both corners would allow him to occasionally give Acuña a break in RF. But the plan is for Luplow to come to camp to fight for the LF job with Rosario. Chance the two could platoon.

I used to watch him when he was with the Indians. Terrible bat against RH pitching, decent against LH pitching, and average defense. He was a bench player there and they either traded him to the Pirates or he was a part of a group of former Indians that signed there when their contract was up in Cleveland. He platooned with the majority of his at bats coming against left handed pitching. He wasn’t very good. This is another reclamation project; more bargain bin shopping and hoping it works.

He is this year’s Robbie Grossman or Mike Ford.

Is he at least a good cheerleader?

Might as well have brought back Heredia

I thought we would sign a Duvall type at least.

Maybe I’m reading too much into this but I think the Luplow signing means no to the Duvall type of OFer and that we are rolling with Grissom / Arcia at SS.

Seems like they are really wanting to stay under the threshold.

Which is so lame, especially when the first level offense is not that big of a deal.

I did too and I still don't think Duvall is off the table.

I have thought since the Murphy trade that the roster was close to complete. They've talked about being a top 5 payroll team and they're already there. We're tapped out of trade assets without dipping into the major league roster and I do not believe there is much money left to spend.

This is why I was against the Murphy trade. Nothing against Murphy himself because he's really good, but Contreras and Henry-Malloy were just about the last two young bats in the system with any trade value who could be moved, and we used them to upgrade positions we were already strong at instead of addressing weaknesses.

It's been a weird offseason that has left us with more questions than there were coming in, but I guess the team is comfortable with Rosario and Grissom being in the opening day lineup.

For one of the most successful franchises we sure do have some whiny fans. Some still butt hurt we let a guy like Contreras go and only replaced him with the 2nd best catcher in the sport. And as a GT guy I like Henry Malloy and would have enjoyed following him. But the playoffs are about pitching so AA is set on building a bullpen that will get us into the playoffs and then give us the best shot in those playoffs. If Malloy turns into another Acuna then it was a mistake. But having another high K guy to use in the 7th, 8th, and 9th is how you win games. That’s how we won the World Series with the 7th, 8th, and 9th being locked down by the night shift.
