Get her a 4Runner or a Camry and call it a day.

I love my CX5
Trying to decide between the CX-5 and the CX-3 as my next daily driver. I’ve studied and considered both for a few months. Both are excellent vehicles, very good build quality, fit & finish and reliability, have great handling and ride quality, AWD, punching above their weight with interior and exterior styling, enough legroom for me and the price (no matter what trim level) is right.
I’m leaning toward the CX-3. I believe that size will be adequate for my needs.
How long have you had yours? Any major issues thus far?

What’s “affordable” to you? For all I know you might scoff at a Kia or balk at a Genesis.

I’ve had the CX5 almost 3 years and zero issues. At 36k miles and a couple long road trips.

I said for middle class people.

Ya'll like some boring arse cars. That is all.

In the next year or so I think we will be looking to buy. The Nissan Armada has really caught my attention

Yep. Solid choices for what it seems the OP is asking about.
You never know though, many "middle class" folks seem to think a $60K car is affordable these days.

I’m a car child of the 60s and 70s. Most cars today all bear a strong resemblance. Not much variance among the automakers. But they’re not ugly, just same same.

As as kid did you ever play that game with your dad, where you’d try to pick what brand or model a car was before you got close enough to read the badge? Fond memories…
I agree with you about the similarities in auto styling and design these days - especially true of the majority of SUVs, mini vans and such. Even as a major gearhead and track rat, I usually can’t tell one brand or model from another these days.
Personally, I’m drawn to the auto styling and designs from the 60s and mid 80s through the late 90s. There was still some flair and uniqueness, IMO. But with that said, you can’t beat the reliability and longevity of today’s cars.

Agree, as a teen in the 60s, I could tell you a car maker from blocks away. Profiles were unique, headlight configuration was predictable and taillights were a dead giveaway.
Now I even have trouble telling between a Honda and a Hyundai logo.
Also, agree that reliability back then was crappy no matter the make. When your car hit 40K miles, it was crap.
To me, best looking cars were the Nissan Maximas of the late 80s, early 90s. (And damn fast.)

Sad but true. The average new car transaction price in august was $48,301. The average American salary in Q2 2022 was $54,132. What a world we live in, people are up to their eyeballs in consumer debt.

Personally, I'd get a V-6 camry because it looks pretty cool, is plenty fast for street driving, and will likely run reliably forever.
I'm hoping to get another year out of my 2010 Honda but this Camry is at the top of my list. If I wrecked today and needed a car, a 2018-2020 Camry would be in my driveway by the end of the week.

My wife has a 2012 Accord and we keep it going due to how expensive vehicles are right now. We could afford another one but she drives like 5k per year so why not see if prices and supply normalize a bit?
