Is it worth? How long was it since you bought it and does insurance help? Tired of glasses

Yes, almost 20 years ago. One of the best things I ever did.

If you have vision insurance, it should pay for a lot of it, but it's pretty cheap regardless, and the lasik place lets you pay in installments.

Custom lasik here, about 15 years ago and still have better than 20/20 vision. I couldn't stand glasses and soft contacts were causing irritation to the point I could only wear them a few hours at a time.

Got mine 15 or so years ago. Best money I've ever spent. Didn't use insurance just paid the $3k

Spent $5,000 about 20 years ago and at the time no insurance covered it (at least for me).

Still the BEST money I've ever spent. Can't put a price on good vision.

20 years later it has degraded a little bit but still VASTLY better than my old 20/200 vision.

I got it in December 2005. I went to my first eye exam since surgery last week and still had 20/15. Paid $1700 back then. No idea what it costs now.

Had mine done a year and a half ago. Agreed, best decision I ever made. Insurance didn't cover anything but it's still only $3k and the procedure took maybe 20 mins.

I had it 23 yrs ago, easy and worth every penny (insurance I had at the time wouldn't cover)

I'm at the age now where I need "readers" from time to time, but that was expected and STILL worth it because my distance vision is still 20/20. There's another procedure for age-related presbyopia now but I don't think it's as widespread as Lasik.

The only side effect I had was it took about a year to break my habit of fidgeting with my glasses... that were no longer there. Also I got extra protective of my eyes like wearing safety glasses when working under my truck for example.

Advice:

Don't skimp on this. You only have two eyes and if you frick them up, well that's that.

Find reputable lasik surgeons with the highest quality reviews and pay the price.

20 years ago.Distant vision still perfect, but need readers. Highly recommend if you're a good candidate. Knowing your refraction, pupil size and corneal thickness all play an important part.

11 years for me and ditto, one of the best things I ever had done.

ETA: The Marines and a stupid Company CO paid for mine. Thanks for not understanding the priority codes and getting mine done ASAP

I got lasik about four years ago. To parrot everyone else it’s the best thing I ever did for myself.

Waking up the next day with perfect vision is like in the superhero movies when the main character discovers their powers.

I had it about 15 (or so) years ago. I can still see distance better than 20/20.

Depending on your health insurance, it will likely pay little if anything.

The doc explained that your eyes can't be focus on close and distance, i told him I want as much distance as possible.

Buddy of mine and I went to the same doctor about 12 years ago. Both paid roughly $3k. I was in my early 30s and my eyes have been 20/20 in on eye and 20/25.2 (I can see 2 of the letters on the 20/20 line) in the other.

He was able to get to better than 20/20, but he was back to a little better than his original vision after ~5 years.

To me it was worth it, to him it was kind of a push because it gave him a few years with no contacts/glasses

Got refractive surgery a year ago. Overall it was worth it, but unfortunately for me, the surgery resulted in dry eye which creates recurring cornea erosion. I have to put drops in a couple times a day to control it. When it flares up, it’s one of the most painful things in the world.
