But they just got a brand new bridge. That’s gotta count for something.

I remember moving from campus to TL and thinking it was a big step up. I lived close to Jim Taylor/Alvin Dark and a peak time, the bus would be full when it got there and did not stop. I learned quickly to walk toward Bob Petit to have a better chance to get on a bus. If lucky, there would be back-to-back LSU buses driving up Alvin Dark. Oh, if you lived on Brightside, good luck getting a bus. That's how popular it was living there in the 80s. If you went four years at LSU and didn't get laid by a cute coed in Tiger Plaza, then you weren't trying...or trying to hard to get into med school.

Tigerland was a dump when I was there in 1985. I can't believe it hasn't been bulldozed yet.

I lived there for three years, from August 1980 through July 1983. We used to walk to Fred's, Zachary's and the other bars. It was a nice area back then.

It's been a shite hole for as long as I can remember. My first time was in 98/99. My last time was maybe 2003.

There are a few things about this that have always amused me. People who stand amazed at coming back to Tigerland to rehash the old days filled with nostalgia tend to kind of wax over the fact that it never really was very nice to begin with, just a place to get hammered on the cheap, and try and score, and so was well on the road to this condition decades earlier. You could see it, if for no other reason than people have always been like locusts, never more clearly demonstrated than in the BR. Once they’ve depleted one area, they swarm to another area that is newer and more shiny down the road to do it all over again, never to invest back in areas to keep them nice and desirable, just keep on overbuilding, moving, and never reinvesting, but always real shocked when the areas they exit from become very undesirable areas shortly after their great exodus.

However, the most comical thing of all is that when you fly into the big BR, you have to drive from our fairly decent airport through the land that everyone, including time itself would just a soon forget entirely, and survey a city that the vast majority of it’s land mass would have to be categorized as undesirable compared to those areas one would really like to live in. Remember that locust thing? There it is.

That area was built with the intention of being student housing, way back in the day.

"It has become something far different".

Friend of mine who has lived in PA for years was in town for Miss State went down there to go to Brew Bachers....without calling to ask if it was still around and was shocked to find that old strip at Lee and Nicholson basically rundown and virtually abandoned. No Brew Bachers, no Arzi's..... AM Mart still there. He said it reminded him of N. Philly....without the needles.
