Trying to gauge how much these damn things are along with who usually pays for this.

Don't blow a shite ton of money on a wedding. Put your foot down and thank me later.

A couple of thousand (not including her dress). We paid for it. Catering for reception was free from wife’s aunts.
But we aren’t from wealthy families.
We have been married 22 years.

Cost was about $50, but I upgraded to the Elvis package and so I had to cough up another $75.
Rip off if you ask me, but that was what she wanted.

Probably like 20k. Collective effort because both my wife’s parents were/are dead.

honestly its up to you. My wife and I paid for everything on our own. We got out for around 5k. But we never wanted anything super big and elaborate. It can be done for a couple hundred if you really want or it can be outrageously expensive.

A shite ton. Both sides paid for it.

Definitely too much. Paid by her parents.
Welcome reception/rehearsal dinner was my parents. Still too expensive but not near as bad

We had a cheap wedding and it cost us around $8k. The only thing her family paid for was her wedding dress and the rehearsal dinner, which were combined less than $1,500.
ETA: Our wedding venue only cost $300, which is the cost of the permit to use a section of the park along the ocean in La Jolla.

ETA If I had it to do over again I'd probably fight harder to have her dad give us the money for a down payment on a nice house and just elope
Problem is it was her first wedding and she was her parent only daughter....so I was kind of up the creek without a paddle on that one.

Several thousand as a package wedding (venue, catering, reception, etc).
Don’t remember who paid for it but we were looking to split between “having a wedding” and “have money to start a new life.” Part of why we didn’t just do a Sandals wedding was that we had family who we wanted to be able to see it and who weren’t going to fly internationally for it.
