Kira has cleared an important step in his recovery process as he’s been cleared for 3-on-3 work. Willie Green says he’s getting better and better. From watching some of the 3-on-3 last night, Kira definitely has his speed back.
seems unlikely that they would decline the option if they think he can contribute, however backcourt minutes are tight already. May be more likely that they try and move him somewhere where he can get a chance to play. Hopefully he has a longer than usual rehab stint with Birmingham so they can see what he’s capable of one way or another but that will come after the option decision

he would have to take a massive leap to earn solid minutes in the rotation.

I look forward to the day we package him, Naji and Temple for a playable NBA player.

There is no reason to decline the option.
Given his pay slot, you pick it up just to keep him as an asset.
It isn’t like he is a Hasheem Thabeet or Anthony Bennett who sucks on the court yet has a huge cap number due to draft position.

It would be nice if he could get cleared for 5 on 5 and play in at least 1 preseason game, but I don't think that timeline matches up.
I think he is going to play in the GLeague a decent amount this year to attempt to get him some minutes.

It would be unnecessarily silly to trade Naji. What he brings as a swiss-army backup with solid defense is well worth his $1.7mil salary.

Main reason to trade Naji is if we need the roster spot for someone else.
He makes so little that it shouldn’t be make or break for being under the tax line.

the pels also have all kinds of flexibilty with naji
Contract Notes:
2022-23: non-guaranteed, fully guaranteed on 1/10/23
2023-24: Club Option (deadline 6/29/23)
the option for 2023 is 1.9MM

I don't think Kira has any value as an "asset". He would have to get healthy, find some minutes somehow and produce.

I disagree. He was a projected first round pick that we took 13th. He is still only 21. Several teams would give something for him. Obviously not a first tho.
If Kira is serviceable or shows flashes then we have a chance to sign him to a cheaper contract with potential. At that point I think you try and trade Graham/ Temple/ Naji and roll with Jose/ DD 2nd string with Kira as the 5th option.
Re-sign Jax, trade Graham/ Naji/ Temple, pocket the 17 mil for future contracts, add Liddell and 2 other young players to develop.

Watching Kira Lewis in a 5-on-5 scrimmage before tonight’s game right now and looks as fast as ever. Even got around Dyson Daniels off the dribble rather easily — super afterburners — a few times and was able to get all the way to the rim at least on a half a dozen possessions.
Kira Lewis finished off 2nd scrimmage by connecting on his last four 3-point attempts — one banker that drew jeers — and had few more blow-bys.
Side note: cool to see Herb Jones and Trey Murphy taking it all in from the bench — another example of how much they breathe basketball

That's a nice blurb from Oleh, but let's be real here... Kira could've been in a wheelchair on the court and the reports would still be that he looks "fast as ever".

I mean... Players and coach have said he looks real fast. So it's not just the media here.
He's really quick and fast so it's not really news.

ACL repair/rehab has come a long way, so it is expected, but it's also good to hear because it wasn't guaranteed.
I've said for a while I don't see where Kira fits the roster anymore. But if he can start showing some of what made him the 13th pick, he at least becomes a trade asset, even if he can't beat out Jose for a rotation spot.

Good news IMO.
Kira was the 13th pick because he has elite mobility and as an 18 year old 2nd year player in college he averaged nearly 20/5/5 on 50/36/80 shooting splits with nearly 2 steals a game.
He hasn't played much like that in the league yet, but as everyone knows, he is still just 21. It won't shock me in the least if he surprises people when he returns and looks much better.

It’s like some of you don’t even watch the games. Naji, at a bare minimum, has been a solid contributor so far. And arguably very valuable. Just such a terrible take.

Agreed on the trade asset, but I’m starting to think we will keep Kira around for longer than expected. I think he’s competing for Graham’s spot, not Jose’s. If he shoots and defends well enough to be a reliable 4th guard, it gives us a cheap Graham replacement and allows us to retool his salary for either another big or savings to pay Herb/Trey.

I will admit Naji has played beyond what I’ve ever expected from him and has been a solid contributor to this team. “Arguably very valuable” might be a stretch tho.
I know people keep talking about Kira as a trade piece and I see where they are coming from but he can bring major contributions to this team. Anyone who says “he doesn’t fit” while watching our lack of PG skills/abilities and ignoring his speed doesn’t know basketball.
