Pittsburgh held them to 416 which is 140 below their season average.

Even though our scheme struggled in the 1H vs Auburn (leave a guy uncovered when the QB leaves the pocket), we are still the best statistical defense they will have faced this year with our 19th ranking.

Scoring D: Pittsburgh @ 70, Florida @ 77, Ball St @ 113, and Akron @ 125.

LSU Scoring D: 14th

We might be the best D they’ve faced, but all those stats are skewed because they include all the yards Tennessee already put up against them. It’s built in to the metric, which makes it kind of a silly thread considering it’s 20% of their opponents’ games.

Tennessee is going to be very hard to stop because Heupel runs pro concepts and Hooker is a experienced QB that throws with anticipation. Hooker is everything LSU fans want JD to be.

Our DL will have to get a good push, seal up QB running lanes (don't over rush on the edge and create space for Hooker to run) and our DBs are going to have to be very sticky to stop this Tennessee offense.

We will probably start by not spying Hooker and dropping a full 7 into coverage because Hooker is a throw first guy. We might have to mix in the QB spy with Baskerville or Perkins if Hooker starts making a lot of QB runs. Hopefully our front four mush rushes with proper technique to eliminate the QB run with only 4 DL and no QB spy. That would be ideal.

The Pitt game and UF games were toss ups as well either team could have won. We are going to give them fits the metrics and Vegas think so. (Yes I know the line is for betting purposes) Vegas sees this as a close game the line could have been 7-8 and people would have still took Tenn. 84% of the money is on Tenn. Vegas doesn’t make 84% mistakes just saying or Las Vegas would still be a desert. This is a sucker bet if there has ever been one which favors the Tigers.

Las Vegas doesn't set lines where they think they should be. They set lines where they think the betters think they should be. The line is not Vegas' opinion of the likely score.

Maybe, the OP needs to do a deep dive and see what Tennessee did in those categories vs the team average. If what you see if a Tennessee total significantly higher than their average, then it skewed the numbers. If it is right about at their average, then the metric seems like it would be decent. If it is below, then it's time to start getting excited

I'll withhold judgement until Saturday noght, after the game

Deep dive: When they played a defense that was ranked significantly higher than Florida, Ball State and Akron, they were held to 416 yards, 143 less than their season average, and needed OT (knocking out Pitt QB Kedon Slovis before half) to win the game.

You guys will definitely be the most talented team we have played. Y’all definitely have more talent than we do overall. Our one possible advantage to help keep us in the game against more talented teams is our offense. That is by scheme and not overwhelming talent. Wrs are pretty good but TE’s and rb’s are average at best. OL is not dominant.

Our defense has not been good. Our d line is the best unit on defense and it isn’t SEC elite everywhere. Our lbers are average at best. Our dbs are awful.

So if you guys could be not good on offense for one more week, we would appreciate it. Thanks.

Sounds just like UGA a few years back. Weak schedule to date. Comes to Death Valley and gets stomped.

Tennessee doesn't turn the ball over and likes to start fast. LSU's first quarter scoring against their three P5 opponents totals 3 points. If Tennessee starts out with a 14-0 or 17-0 type lead, that's going to be tough for LSU to overcome.

This is what some aren't considering. We have started off slow against every semi decent team we have played. If we do that again, we aren't going to have a chance to win this game

Discipline is key. LSU can’t bite on the QB run and get burnt like they did last weekend.

Was it against Pitt, where they had 7 points in the first quarter, or was it against Florida where they had 3 points in the first quarter, that they started “fast”?
