Expecting to get injury updates and him addressing dismal passing game.
LINK
- LSU vs Tennessee...11am CT in Tiger Stadium on ESPN.
- Tennessee leads the overall series, 20-10-3, but LSU has won the last five meetings.
- BJ Ojulari named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week...Had 4 tackles, including a pair of sacks, and a forced fumble in LSU's 21-17 comeback win over Auburn.
- Any road win is a great win, especially coming back from being down 17 points
- Forcing turnovers and running game key to victory.
- Special teams much improved.
- He realizes that heart and fight can only get you so far...team needs to start playing better for four quarters
- Kelly faced Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker when Hooker was at VA Tech...big physical QB that can pass well.
- Coach expects crowd to show up large at 11am on Saturday.
- Regarding Boutte's low production: still building trust with QB, getting a lot of double coverage...Boutte still regarded as elite NFL prospect. Boutte would love to get the ball more but very happy that team is winning.
- Regarding lack of vertical passing game: deep pass just didn't work this week. Realizes that lack of vertical passing game won't cut it the rest of the season.
- Regarding passing game overall: not just QB issue...WR's need to run better routes and catch better...perhaps offensive play calling needs tweaking.
- Regarding coverage busts on defense in first half: Kelly hesitant to call any player out...issues stemmed from communication problems. Coaches need to over-communicate.
- Kelly acknowledges that team is conservative offensively...he doesn't want interceptions...but realizes that Daniels needs to take some more risks to get WR's the ball.
- On Emery fumble: backside lineman pulled when he shouldn't have, which led to untouched defender stripping ball...didn't absolve Emery of losing the ball but result would have been different had lineman done right thing.
- Left guard Garrett Dellinger (broken left hand) will be back and will practice this week.
- Regarding Daniel's injury: he is fine...injury related to bursa sac...painful injury but no damage structurally...felt good yesterday...MRI was clean.
- Regarding Running Back depth: Josh Williams in the man...good pass blocker...hard runner...good receiver out backfield. John Emery is coming along and Cain is a huge asset with fresh legs.
- Regarding Sevyn Banks and Major Burns: Banks has spinal cord bruise...might be out 5-6 weeks. similar issue as Major Burns...Burns starts running today, next week he will do non-contact drills
- Regarding BJ's forced fumble: that was a captain's play, an effort play, a play made when it needed to be made...huge.
- Regarding interior defensive line play: it was good this past weekend. Wingo consistent, but Roy stood out. Roy had been banged up this season but was injury free this past weekend and it showed.
- Dellinger is backup center...Fitzgerald West also getting reps at center.

Ugh. Just talked about penalties.
I’m not saying we weren’t sloppy at times, but those refs were dog shite.

Hopefully we’ve figured out the miscommunication leading to blown coverages against Auburn. Tennessee will be looking to exploit the deep ball a ton.

You won’t have a vertical passing gane if you aren’t constantly hitting the middle of the field with slants/crosses/deep-in with Bech/Boutte. Get that going and you can take the top off the D

I love how BK is being brutally honest about the QB play and the need to be aggressive. He keeps stressing about downfield passing. Jayden has to let loose if we want any chance to win.

Press conference ending:
Someone explains to Kelly about the JJ/T-Bob win over the Vols, and he says, "Oh, so penalty, re-snap, and win it, huh? Let's try to do something better, OK." And he walks off the set.

Well at least he realizes this. I do not know how it will be "addressed" without a change in QB play.

I know this has been beaten into oblivion, but I'm saying it again anyway - it's great to have a speak so concisely and competently. I feel like I'm learning something new as a fan of the program and as someone wanting a better understanding of football.
Why exactly is he hated, again?

Unlike Les at least he recognizes the issues and addressed them and realizes you will struggle to beat the next four teams if you don't get better in the passing game.

Did he say Dellinger is back this week? couldn't hear the question but he said someone would be back.

I know he’d like to be back for Bama on 11/5 which is right at 5 weeks. Although I wouldn’t rush anything.
Arkansas, Senior night, & A&M are just as big.

It's obvious Coach Kelly reads The Rant on Sundays.

Why is Kelly so scat to change starting qb?

These two are very promising to hear. I had mentioned the receivers poor route running earlier.

I would be interested to know how many miscues happen on the OL in a single game. This one was super noticable, Bradford pulled to the left while two other linemen (Frazier and either Turner or Campbell, I don't recall) pulled to the right.

Chicken:
The answer is simple Kelly has to embrace a two QB system which is a dreaded thought but thats the way it has to be.
Let JD do the motion and simple throws/ run schemes and Nuss the passing plays.
If not you will see WRs jump ship and will not see any 4-5* WRs recruited in the coming years.
