Did Chryst have a compete clause in his contract? Why would he agree to a lower buyout than what they agreed on?

That's fukked up. Guy goes off and wins 72% of his games and he gets dumped for a rough start.

He fielded competitive teams with excellent defense. This is fukked up, unless Leonhard was their target and the AD and boosters wanted to secure him now

i guess a big part of that 72% was early on, and the last few seasons has been declining fast, including really bad returns this year

Because he's a Wisconsin Man.

Seriously, I can see him doing that as he truly loves the school and team. He's not a mercenary.

And not being a mercenary was part of his problem.

Yes.

The national writers, and those that get all their "facts" from them, will scream about firing a guy that won 70% of his games without looking closer.

What he did 5 years ago doesn't matter. The team is a dumpster fire today.

Chyrst is a fool if he didn't demand the full buyout. The school obviously doesn't love him back. Schools and universities have no loyalty except to the institution. They are like GWAR. GWAR continues without any founding members and just tours and records.

Chryst is an idiot and had no reason to take a reduced buyout unless the school has something on him. If he thinks an institution returns love he is mistaken.

This is their Bo Pelini moment, thinking they're too good for 9 wins a year.

Some of those Big 10 fanbases just dont understand how hard it is to win 9+ games a year in that part of the country in the modern era of college football. Chryst had a .700 winning percentage with a bunch of big slow white dudes nobody else wanted.

Leonhard turned down more money to be DCs at LSU and Green Bay in order to stay at UW and be HC in waiting. This was inevitable, both sides wanted each other

But that was the closest Wisconsin has been to a national championship in my lifetime, and I'm almost 40.

2010 they were one game away, would’ve been undefeated but lost at MSU.

I can't help but think that conference expansion helped motivate this change.

With USC and UCLA coming, and others potentially following, Wisconsin might've seen a purgatory of mid-level bowls and no meaningful success on the horizon with Chryst.

We'll see who their next hire is, but this could be a shrewd, proactive move.

In early October.

And the Frogs shut you down in Pasadena.

My previous post stands.

I'm not against the move and the risk is probably worth it. But negative side is if you don't make the right hire and can't keep up talent wise in the expanded conference you could end up firmly in the mediocre middle of the B1G.

That game was after the BCS teams had been selected, so it’s irrelevant to the conversation about how close we’ve gotten. Fact is we win that MSU game we play for a title. To me one game is pretty close.

We were already there, or worse, with Chryst.

Kinda there right now. Of course this could be an anomaly but the trend line isn’t good

Look at Auburn and Nebraska. Might not work out for either school to get anyone better.

The run game has not been up to Wisconsin's levels for a little while

If I am the Nebraska AD, I would hire him to be the next HC.

I love how people just ignore the examples where the team got better after a coaching change.

"muh Nebraska!"
