You need to know I hate Nebraska! I want to see the AD to make a dumb hire.

That game was after the BCS teams had been selected, so it’s irrelevant to the conversation about how close we’ve gotten. Fact is we win that MSU game we play for a title. To me one game is pretty close.

Dude, again, that loss was in early October. You never sniffed the national title that season.

You were one drive against Ohio State for the B1G title when you were undefeated. That's the closest you've ever been to a national title in my lifetime. This isn't even debatable.

Was this since they added the playoff?

So they win that and have to beat two more highly ranked teams, probably one or both from the SEC?

Why does this matter?!

I said that was the closest Wisconsin has ever been to winning the national championship in my lifetime. There is objectively nothing untrue about that.

They've been Les miles 9-3 good but were never gonna win shite.

Miles lost to Chryst 6 years ago and was fired basically on the same week as this season.

As mentioned, the team is a mess, he left the recruiting department vacant for 9 months, he hates media and booster relations to the point where he basically shut down the most prominent booster club.

Oh, and UWs bread and butter the last 20 years, the OL, is legitimately straight up bad, despite being the one spot where they’ve actually recruited 4 star talent consistently.

He’s an old school football coach but not the guy to lead a program in the NIL/portal era.

He should go back to being an OC. That’s the right role for him

There was a time that no one in the B1G West was near Wisconsin. Still sort of looks that way, as the Badgers have been to six B1G Championship games and next closest are Iowa/NW at two. However, the Badgers haven't been since 2019, have started losing games they shouldn't (i.e. Minnesota), and there was clear indication off-the-field that Paul Chryst was just not keeping up with the changing landscape of college football - he left a recruiting department vacant, disbanded Mendota Gridiron Club (Wisconsin's biggest boosters), struggled to modernize an offense that he used 10+ years ago, and was slow with NIL/portal.

Paul Chryst is a great dude. Clean as it gets and the true definition of a "players coach." He is one of the most-respected names the Wisconsin program has had, but this wasn't just about W/L. Last night sucked. The entire program is gutted by this news, as many never expected it would end as it did. However, there were clear on-field and off-field trends since 2020 that brought this finality.

I'll find out this weekend when I visit LL in Lawrence! Seriously, I'm assuming Jim Leonhard gets the job.

Think McIntosh's remarks last night + some of the immediate mentions from reporters in the room, make it pretty obvious that this is, likely, going to Jimmy. The way it has been popularly phrased is, "Everyone at the university wants this to work out."

That is fine and dandy for the defensive side of the ball but they really need to hire the correct OC if they want to elevate the program. Also, they need to take recruiting seriously.

This is my main concern. Leonard will have the D shored up, but our offense has been putrid the last 3 years. Mertz is the main problem, but our OL hasn't been good either.

I guess it’s the environment of college football now, but there are hall of fame coaches with down years like that. But they were given time to turn it around. Vince Dooley, Johnny Majors, even Bear Bryant had some very lean years in between great success. You have to wonder if they would have survived to see their better years with the expectations of the modern game.

But like you and other Wisconsin fans have stated, we are only seeing it from the outside.
