I feel like the show was slanted against her. Do you think she euthanized patients?
ETA: The show paints the picture that she for sure gave patients lethal doses but the New Orleans DA didn’t want to charge her. I don’t know if I believe that, which is why I say it feels slanted.

I refuse to judge anyone in that situation and neither should anyone else. I'll say this, if I were one of those patients put me out of my fricking misery rather than let me suffer

Wouldn’t it have been kinder at some point?
Is this the one where flood waters were coming in and people were dying by the hundreds and there was no power or water or medical care and lawless hoodlums were killing people in the streets?

Completely agree there is no way anyone could imagine what it was like being in that hospital unless you were there

If you watched the show, the two people that went to the State AG and said that Dr. Pou euthanized people both left before the euthanasia occurred. That black dude just ran away like a bitch and made up the story to deflect from his cowardice.

No.
Foti based his case on the absurd claim that morphine + Versed is fatal.

No way…. She is a great doctor abandoned by her employer in an impossible situation.
Even if mistakes were made in the chaos, it was hardly criminal and certainly it was unconscionable that the hospital hung her out to dry and even refused to defend her.
The AG should have gone after the hospital not the doctor if there was anyone culpable.

Doctors never use the word euthanize, they hide behind the ethics of unintended consequences. We really should just open up a legal pathway to humane end of life care. Doctors certainly give patients enough pain meds to kill them, but they claim the intent was to make the patient comfortable and the death was an unintended consequence.

It’s horrible, but that whole time was horrible

I have good friend, whom I trust, that was at Memorial the entire time. His wife was an administrator and he went with her when she was called in for the emergency. The conditions were truly horrific.
One thing many people don't realize is that the upper floors of the hospital were leased out to another medical company who provided end of life hospice care to patients. This was the last stop for these patients, regardless of the circumstances.
The hospice company assigned a doctor and a few, mainly new, nurses to the emergency team. When things got bad, the doctor got on the first boat leaving the facility and abandoned his patients and staff. (My friend saw him leave like a coward.)
The hospital staff, and their families, worked heroically for the next 2-3 days to get patients out of the hospital and to keep them as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately, some of the hospice patients did not survive.
My friend spent his time ferrying patients on gurneys up to the heliport to be airlifted away. He says he was the last person from the facility to leave.
As to euthanizing, he said that many of the staff brought their pets with them to the hospital when they reported for the emergency. They were not allowed to take them on the helicopters, so they asked the doctors to euthanize their pets rather than leave them to starve etc.

I was there Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday and parts of Thursday,,,,no one on this board (unless you were part of this mess) can pass judgment on what occurred,,,,watching a mini series of 5-6 hours does not paint the picture of what occurred over the course of 120+ hours.
3 years later, I was in DC, and walked past a alleyway and there was a large group of homeless people,,,,the wind was blowing in my direction,,,,I caught a whiff and immediately I was back in that squalor,,,hadn’t smelled it before then nor after.
Y’all really cannot imagine it.

it was a fricking travesty that they tried to charge her with 2nd degree murder and then fricking conspiracy to commit 2nd degree murder. frick this state and frick that city. frickin retards.
i remember reading one morbidly obese (500lbs+) guy who had the fricking gall to beg the medical staff to save him. In a disaster. As if he didn't doom himself already. New Orleans to a T - entitlement to the end.

I've met her several times. I don't think she did it, but regardless I won't pass judgement because I wasn't there. Always sounded like a first class fricked up situation.

Yes. But you have to consider the circumstances.

It’s called comfort care, that’s what they basically did to my mom when she was dying of cancer… decided to stop all life saving measures and the kept giving Ativan and morphine around the clock until she stopped breathing. Sometimes you have no choice

If you want to read a lot of responses on this subject, so a search: we’ve had this thread on here in the last three weeks

It’s so easy to armchair quarterback this in an air conditioned setting eating Cheetos calling her a heartless bitch and a murderer
Edit: not directed at you OP, but the internet response of how could she possibly do this to people ?????

I absolutely believe she did it. But I also believe that the conditions they were having to deal with it was probably the best option available. If they would have done nothing that would have been a slow agonizing death. They either die from heat stroke or starving to death

Cool, you watched the show too.

Based on watching the series, it really is hard to judge people for the decisions that were made. No one has no idea what they would do if they were in that exact same position. Everyone was physically and mentally drained.
It would have been less humane to leave those people there alive. They would have likely died anyway, but they would have suffered. No one talks about the lives they saved.
